Different places require stones with different properties - waterproofing, thermal insulation, heat resistance. For a kitchen apron, it is not recommended to use a coating with a complex texture - it is extremely problematic to clean it from drops of fat, pieces of food.

Load calculation

The wall load is calculated independently or using special online calculators... It is necessary to take into account what the wall is made of, its thickness. If the weight of a square meter of a tile is within 25 kg, then excessive loads are not imposed on the surface. OSB boards can withstand a significant weight. The smaller, the lighter the pebbles, the more chances that they will hold on for a long time, firmly. Material consumption depends on the area of ​​the treated surface, which is calculated by multiplying the length of the wall by the height. Repair experts recommend buying a stone with a margin of 5-10%, especially if it has to be cut in some places, observe a certain pattern, or it is simply overly fragile.

Preparation of the surface and stone for laying

Before you start laying out the surface with pebbles, the walls need to be leveled - carefully, as under the wallpaper. All previous coatings should be removed - residues old paint, wallpaper, are brushed off with an iron brush. Next, the base must be carefully primed, after which tiles can be laid. Of the materials, you need the stone itself, tile glue. The heavier the facing, the more glue is needed, the "stronger" it should be. There are two types: gypsum-based and cement-based. On the packaging, they usually write what kind of work this or that composition is intended for.

Necessary tools for self-masonry

For DIY styling, you will need a lot of tools:

Stone laying

When all the finishing materials and tools are prepared, they proceed to gluing.

Its stages:

• glue application;
• laying tiles;
• rustication;
• coating with a protective compound.

First, the glue is kneaded, applied to the wall in small portions - it should not dry out, be thick, but not crumble. The adhesive composition is distributed with a smooth spatula, and smeared on the tile with a notched one. You can use "liquid nails", cement. Each piece is pressed tightly against the wall. After the completion of gluing, all excess is removed from the surface and seams. It is advisable that the solution does not get on the front part - it will be difficult to clean it. Bricks are firmly attached to a wall made of wood, plasterboard, aerated concrete by proper gluing with a special compound. If the tiles are glued on cement mortar, then you first need to fill the paint net, on it - plaster. If necessary, the parts are cut with a hacksaw, grinder.

Laying should start from the corner, from the very bottom up, row by row. Usually, the fastening is done under the joining, that is, the tiles will be slightly removed from each other, the spaces between them are filled with mortar, the excess of which should be removed. The width of the seam is assumed to be approximately one to one and a half cm. If no seams are provided, then the bricks are placed as tightly as possible, close to each other.

Finishing

The final finishing includes removing excess mortar from the joints, painting them in the color of bricks or tiles, and applying a protective layer.

The coating must be applied if:

• there are children, pets in the house;
• the wall is in a damp room;
• the stone is painted with paint;
• cheap bricks of poor quality.

Protection is applied when all the tiles have already been attached, the seams are dry. The composition is applied with a roller, brush, spray gun. Facade parts of the building are "decorated" only in dry weather.

Natural onyx, marble are used to decorate the bathroom, mosaic, "cascade" of different stones are suitable. The corridor walls are covered with them partially, completely, the arch is laid out. Correctly placed light sources look good - this way the stone looks more profitable. When used without additional lighting, in places that are not visible from the street, a cave effect is obtained.
