Pattern of a horse's head from fabric. Sew a horse? Selection of patterns

Procurement and storage secrets

A horse mask may be needed by a child at school or in the garden, not only for the New Year's party. The horse is the heroine of many fairy tales. It will be useful for open literature lessons at school, and for festive performances at celebrations.

Mask options

There are several options for DIY masks:

  1. Horse head mask made of paper with a rim or elastic band. The template can be made by yourself or you can use a ready-made scheme. The advantage is that it is easy to do. Especially if you immediately cut out all the details from colored cardboard. But it also breaks quickly.
  2. Volumetric paper mask. You have to work hard here. To make such a 3D mask, you need a perfectly correct pattern. Otherwise, the craft will be spoiled, and the horse will turn out to be completely different from itself.
  3. Foam or felt mask. Another kind of volumetric masks. To make it, you should cut out every detail from the foam rubber, and then connect them together. The finished horse muzzle slips directly over the head. This is a difficult, but the most reliable version of the mask with your own hands.

We decided to make an ordinary paper mask so that you can create with us.

Preparation of materials

We are sure that everything you need can be found in every home. It is more convenient to organize work at the table, since we will be drawing. But first you need to prepare:

  • glue - any will do;
  • sheets of colored paper;
  • felt-tip pen black;
  • sheet of paper A3;
  • scissors;
  • A4 horse head template.

You can draw the template yourself. Do not forget that our horse is fabulous. It's okay if there are some inaccuracies during drawing. Does the muzzle that looks at you from a sheet of paper look like a horse's? It means that you did everything right.

Progress

We decided that our horse will be brown, but it can also be white, blue or pink. Especially if it is a mask for a girl. Then the horse will remind the heroes of your favorite cartoons about ponies. Let's get to work.

Children just love to transform into various New Year's characters. This year, the queen of the score is the horse, so if your kid has an honorable mission to be a stallion or a horse on the New Year's holiday, a handmade horse mask is what you need! After all, this is the basis of the costume. Having made the most important attribute, which is the mask, you can slightly complement the image with some elements and the New Year's horse costume is ready! So, let's immediately start making (sewing) a New Year's horse mask.

How to make a horse mask for a child

The horse's head is a mask sewn from fabric, for which a pattern is not needed. With the help of a master class performed by the craftsman Ekaterina Orlova, you can easily and simply make a soft horse head and use it as a mask-cap for a horse costume.

To sew a horse mask we need:

  • dense fabric (corduroy, drape);
  • thread, needle;
  • synthetic winterizer;
  • knitted, stretch fabric for lining;
  • fur, artificial or natural;
  • eyelet buttons or ready-made eyes;
  • harness strap.

Work description

The mask is sewn like a bandana.

We make two symmetrical parts from dense fabric:

We measure the upper contour of the part:

We add 7 cm to the resulting length and cut a long rectangle, 10 cm wide, and the long one is what we got.

For the ears, we cut 4 identical parts:

Each eyelet will be double. Stitching the details of the ears:

Now we sew a hat like a bandana and sew an eyelet:

We begin to sew the details from the back of the head. The rectangle is bent - this is the muzzle (chin) of the horse. You should get a hat like this:

We make an incision on the chin of our horse, depending on the size of the child's head:

Cut corners:

We fill the mask with padding polyester:

Now we need to sew a lining hat.

We sew it inside the dying edges of the mask

Sew on the mane.

We glue the eyes. We make harness.

The corners of the folds on the muzzle have turned into nostrils. To make the nostrils clearer, the folds can be turned with a thread.

If there is a boy or two boys in your house (as in my case :)), or even three or more little tomboy, then it is likely that one day at a calm Sunday breakfast you will hear something like: "Why are we all without horses , yes, without horses ... "And here it will immediately become clear to you that the task has been set and you urgently need to do something about it :). I suggest you do not suffer for a long time with this issue, but make a horse on a stick with your own hands. I assure you that making such a horse is very easy! And it will take quite a bit of time for this. And the emotions of your boys when meeting these horses will exceed all your expectations! :)

So, we need:

Horse head filler (holofiber, synthetic winterizer, cotton wool - whatever you find),

Stick 1-1.2 m long,

Threads, scissors and about 1 hour of time :)

Well, let's get started :)

We fill the sock with filler - quite plump, leaving about 4-5 cm empty at the entrance.

We cut the yarn into threads of approximately the same length. The thickness of the mane will depend on the number of threads.

We cut out blanks for the ears from cardboard - in my case there are two of them: one is larger, the second is about 1 cm smaller. This is a purely decorative moment, in principle, you can make them as you like.

We put the mane on the head of the future horse. For the convenience of sewing, the threads can be pulled together with an elastic band under the "chin" of our workpiece.

The mane is very quickly, simply and conveniently sewn with a buttonhole seam. The photo shows how to make a loop and where the needle goes.

The result is such a beautiful seam :)

Using cardboard blanks, cut out the ears from felt. Felt is a very grateful material for such crafts for children and any other decorative things. It is quite dense, keeps its shape well, the edges do not crumble, which is very convenient, since it allows you to do original things quite quickly and without using special tools for processing the edges. You can buy felt of different colors.

Fold them as shown in the photo and grab them with a few stitches to set their shape.

You should have something like this.

We sew the ears to the horse's head.

We fold the edge where the seams are visible so that everything looks like this from the front.

Now we will make a bridle. We do everything as simple and fast as possible. We wrap the horse's face with tape so that the volume is clear. Then carefully remove it and sew it.

We sew them on the face.

Well, on this, the work on the image of the horse can already be considered completed. But our imagination roamed, and we decided to make her - that is, him :) - also a mustache. They just cut them out of felt and sewn them on.

To make a toy, you will need 4 approximately identical socks. Of course, it is better if there are 2 pairs, but single pairs are also suitable, not too different in texture and pattern. Also prepare threads for sewing, embroidery and knitting (leftovers are possible), a hook, a needle with a large eye, scissors. Take care of what you will stuff your toy with. The most suitable trimming padding polyester. Cotton wool is too heavy, and foam rubber quickly breaks down and forms toxic substances.

Head

For the head, take 1 whole sock. This is actually a finished head with a neck. If the toe is long, the neck can be shortened by bending the open part inward. Stuff your head and neck with padding polyester. The hole can be repaired. Before collecting the rest of the parts, arrange the muzzle. Embroider eyes, nostrils, smiling mouth. If there are pieces of leather matching the color, make triangular ears out of them and sew them on. You can also make a mane immediately. Sew the withers with a basting stitch. The stitches should be fine. Knit the first row with simple columns, 2-3 in each stitch. Next, tie a fringe from the same thread.

Torso

The torso blank is a pipe. If there is no pair of socks, it is better to make the body of the horse from the top of the golf course. Cut off your foot. Close one slice at once. Fill the torso with padding polyester and seal the second hole. Sew on the head. Form the curve of the neck by pulling the head to the body and securing it with a few stitches.

Legs

For the legs, it is better to take paired knees. Make the hind legs from the upper parts, and the front legs from the lower ones. Make 4 pipes - they do not have to be exactly the same, those for the front legs may be slightly shorter. The legs are done in much the same way as the torso. Sew them on and then make the hooves. The easiest way is to tie them together. First, make 4 identical flat circles, and then tie to each "bead". The hooves should be worn on the feet. To keep the horse standing, put cardboard circles inside and sew each hoof along the top edge.

Pantyhose horse

Both nylon tights and cotton tights are suitable for making a horse. A horse is sewn in almost the same way, but it is more convenient to cut it like this. For the head, one of the feet with a small piece of the lower leg is suitable, for the torso - the part that fits the area between the thigh and knee. All this can be cut out of one stocking, and from the second - all four legs.

Design options

You can decorate a face not only with the help of embroidery. Eyes and mouths made of self-adhesive paper or film, as well as pieces of skin, will look good. Beads and beads are also suitable for decorating the muzzle. A mane fringe can be made from a piece of fabric or leather.

So, I will try to explain how I sewed a herd of 4 horses. Given: ball fitball with handles, an old brown coat made of soft drape, an old corduroy black skirt, small strips of red (I wanted red, you can choose any other) fabric for the "bridle", 2 empty liter bottles from under the Sprite (Coca- cola), a little padding polyester, a small piece of telephone cord (I will explain why later), wide scotch tape, eyes (which pierce the fabric and are fixed from the inside out), elastic band 2.5 - 3.0 cm wide, 90 cm long, zigzag scissors (if possible)

First you need to make a pattern body horses. All balls are different, so I don't give universal numbers. I decided to make 6 wedges: for this we find the "equator" of the ball, measure, divide the resulting figure by 6 - this is the width of the wedge at the bottom. We measure from the conditionally upper point the distance to the "equator" plus 10cm - this is the height of the wedge, to the height we add another 3-4cm for the hem. We cut out head, neck- details are rectangular 28 by 20 cm, the nose of the muzzle (black fabric) is a circle with a diameter of 9 cm (with an allowance) and a rectangle 28 by 7 cm (with an allowance). Ears- each with 2 wedges of black and brown color, 8cm high and 6cm wide (with primer). Mane - 2 rectangles of brown and black colors, measuring 35 by 20 cm. Tail- 2 rectangles are identical to the mane only 20 by 15 cm in size. " Bridle"- 2 strips of red color 5-6 cm wide, 30 and 55 cm long (with primer). Legs- the main brown part 15 by 15 cm 9 with prip). But here the upper edge needs to be made curved: that is, in the center, the leg will be 15 cm long, and 9 cm along the seam. Hoof- this is a black circle with a diameter of 7cm (with an edge) and a curved black piece with a height of 7cm (with an edge), the upper edge of which is 15cm, and the bottom one is 22cm.
We collect the legs: we grind the main part with the curved part of the hoof,

Sew the longitudinal seam, connect it to the bottom of the hoof. Lightly fill the legs with padding polyester. not tight, just so that there is volume.

We collect the ears - we grind the details, turn them out

Ears and legs in finished form

We make the mane and tail - we cut the fringe with scissors, leaving a central longitudinal line 2 cm wide. We sew in the center to connect 2 parts.

We grind the wedges together. Here you can not do without fitting. in the process of fitting it is desirable to achieve a good fit of the "body" of the horse to the ball. so that the seams do not protrude, but also do not tighten the ball. We wrap the seams with ironing and ironing. We wrap the bottom of the "body", bend it by 3-4 cm and sew.

We process the holes for the ball handles. We cut out 2 "donuts" (a circle with a hole in the middle) with an outer diameter of 9cm, look at the inner diameter on your ball. I machine with an appliqué stitch. You can just zigzag around the edge several times and for rigidity a couple of circles. The location of the handles is determined during the fitting process. For me, the "support" was the conditional top point of the ball, which I marked with a marker at the very beginning of the construction of the wedge pattern. I combined this point with the junction of all the wedges.

We attach the tail to the back. We attach the legs in the middle of the back wedges at a height of 14 cm from the bottom. I sewed the first ones with my hands, bending, first, the upper edge of the leg. Then I realized that I could sew on a seam for appliqués on the machine.

We attach the front legs in the same way, respectively, on the front wedges.
Side view of the "torso"

Let's get to the fun part: the head! It is necessary to cut off the upper part of the plastic bottle, cut out a round hole for the neck, cut a small 1 cm long slot on the side of the head opposite from the neck to secure the neck. I AM fastened my neck so: 2 holes were punctured in the bottle cap intended for this. That is, she made a kind of button, threaded a thick nylon thread several times (that is, thread the thread without tightening, but leaving an overlap from the thread (then you will need to thread a telephone wire there), as if sewing on a button ")

We stuff the face with newspapers, but not very tightly, otherwise the head-neck will be heavy and will fall. We close the bottle-neck with a lid. We insert into the bottle-head, we push the thread loop into the slot for securing the neck 1 cm. We close everything with a 10cm piece of telephone cord. in this photo I have not quite a telephone cord. The point is that the telephone cord is flat, moderately bends, and this is what my "female fantasy" came up with) We fix this area with several layers of tape. We also fix the junction of the neck and head with tape.

We stuff the back of the head with a newspaper, glue it with tape.

We sew the face in the same way as the legs. Cut out the lower part of the head for a better fit of the neck. Here again you can not do without fitting. Sew the upper edge of the neck to the lower edge of the head. Leave the back of the head and back of the neck open. Determine the location of the peephole. We pierce the plastic with an awl, insert the eyes. Here we can do without securing from the inside out. Plastic + fabric keep eyes well.

We sew the back of the head and neck with our hands. With our hands we sew the mane, ears, "bridle".

Cut the bottle-neck along the bottom edge, focusing on the beginning of the petals-bottom. This photo shows how the bottle-neck is fixed.

We fill the bottle-neck with a newspaper. The stuffing is done in order to give rigidity to the structure (synthetic winterizer is not suitable here). It's just that empty plastic can be punctured quite easily. at the same time, the packing should not be heavy. If anyone has a better idea, please share !!

We sew the finished head with our hands with a blind seam next to the holes for the handles. Everything!!! The horse is ready.

If anyone has ideas for improving the technology, I will only be grateful to you !!! Hope that explained clearly. I will answer all the questions that may arise ...
