If the great Apostle did not know what to ask of the Lord, then what can we, down to earth and enveloped in incessant and often empty vain life, know?

However, every believer from his personal life knows how the merciful Lord does not leave him in requests. As many requests are poured out from a person to the Lord, the same amount and much more follows from Him happy and comforting answers.

Yes, there are requests that remain unanswered. When? Doesn't the unfortunate mother know what is needed for her unlucky son: a drug addict, a drunkard, a riotous rowdy? Knows and asks. And the son remains, to her tears and grief, the same, if not worse. Often mothers say that the son wants to leave his misdeeds and cannot. “Father, I pray, but the Lord does not help. Maybe I'm praying wrong? " What can you say for consolation to a mother who is disappointed in everything? In her despair, she can already hear a murmur against the Lord: "I pray, but the Lord does not help."

- I know, mother, that you are praying. But the son flatters you, complains about his pretense, but does not want to leave his former life. Therefore, I will tell you: keep on praying, mother. The mother's prayer cannot but be heard, and she will do her job, let it be, perhaps, even after your death. Here is the whole answer to the tearful question. Oh, if only the prayer was mutual!

We know from the Old Testament how two Israelite kings, Saul and David, sinned. And both asked the prophets to pray for them. But the first prophet commanded to surrender the royal affairs, since he, having sinned, can no longer be the king of Israel, and to the other, who had sinned much more, at the very first petition for prayer, the prophet answered: "Take away your sin!"

At first glance, it looks like injustice. After all, both ask and ask a prophet, a person who, so to speak, has direct access to God. And the answer is different: David was pardoned, and Saul was rejected in his request. Why? Because one of the sinners, sprinkling ashes on his head, groaned and prayed for mercy, while the other continued his godless way of life, wishing that someone else would ask and pray for him.

But in life there are literally wild cases. Doctors from the parishioners noticed after me that their old father was weakening in health and sent me to the local Ural sanatorium health resorts to rest and rebuild my strength. It so happened that Mashenka Shmakova, a student of the Chelyabinsk Medical Institute, was on vacation with her mother at the “Medic” recreation center. The family is a believer. It was on August 4, the day of the memory of Mary Magdalene. And we, in a marching way, celebrated the day of the Angel Mashenka. We sang, as it should be, “many years”. A thought flashed through: perhaps, for the first time in my life, the prayer of many years was said in this place. Passing the food pavilion, my mother went into it to buy something for dinner, and I sat down on a chair at the pavilion table. - Where did you get that God exists?

- And where did you get that he is?

- And where did you get that He is not?

In my prison, which I spiritually nourish, where there are more than three thousand of the same children, no one promised me this, and now my children will have a newcomer for fun training and entertainment. Who will pray for such a thing? What awaits him? God alone knows.

But it is gratifying and, one might say, rewarding that a believer feels when he asks the Lord for help. The requests of those are fulfilled right there.

With the permission of a patient reader of my notes, I will cite one or the other God's help to my requests, which clearly show what our requests are appropriate for God to fulfill. I wish first to explain that the help of God, rendered to me, was not for my dignity, but because my request turned out to be pleasing to God, about which I enlightened, to my shame, many years later, when I was already a priest.

I graduate from a mining college, work in a mine as a mechanic at a mining site. A baby was born, then a second. There is a sharp lack of housing, but the mine does not provide housing. In the team of mechanics-repairmen, I was treated very well. People older than me, experienced in work and life, seeing my hopeless situation, one late evening delegation came to my house with a bottle of vodka and put 1200 rubles on the table. of money. It turns out that they bargained for me a house near the mine. I was frightened and confused. At first I refused, but the strict conversation of the miners stopped me: “If you won’t take it, we’ll take it back, we won’t offer it a second time, and our friendship will break. For years, the house was old, filled up. The area is sufficient, but in a good frost the walls froze through, and the house had to be heated without stopping. Fortunately, there was coal. And then somehow I came home from the night shift. The wall where mom lies is covered with snow. He lit the stove, gave Mom some tea and sat down side by side on the edge of the bed.

I picked up a newspaper, and I came across a note that this year so many millions have been commissioned for the welfare of the Soviet people. square meters housing. My mother and wife often told me to quit my job in the mine. But I did not see where I could apply myself with a mining diploma. And then the Lord puts me in a different position.

By this time my rating had grown: I was transferred as a mechanic to the Ventilation section. In other words, the gas protection of the mine lay on me. This is high and very responsible. But all my successes were not counted, the first opponent of my requests was the party organizer of the mine. The arguments were obvious: attending the Church, reports on the baptism of children, morally unstable. And I decided to leave the mine. I came home upset, my mother noticed and asked the reason. I told and added that if now they began to persuade me to stay at the mine and offered Zhiguli for free, I would not agree, believing that I had exchanged faith for a coffin with wheels. Of course, my heart was very bad and painful, but I had to listen to my mother earlier, I would have left quietly and peacefully, painlessly. Where to go? Maria offers for the construction of the "Chelyabinsk Poultry Factory", where she worked at a construction site, in order to subsequently go over as a veterinarian. Decided. The decision was made by three of us: me, mom and Maria. Neither children nor relatives knew anything. We agreed that until I get a job, I will not say a word to anyone where I am going. So the Lord suggested.

- Abba, you and I are in the deep desert, in your cave we are alone, no one hears us, why was it necessary to write a note, and even burn it?

- Our conversation is heard by the crafty one.

- No, I couldn't. He is not trained in this. In addition, his primitive pride will not allow him to read a note written by a man of God.

Remembering the advice of the wondrous old man, we decided to have our own family secret.

So, I applied for dismissal. After the director's signature, the application was to be signed by my head of the Ventilation section. An ardent commie. He tolerated me only because I had a wonderful friendship with the RGTI (mining inspection), before which everyone was in awe. It was the will of God that kept me afloat in front of the haters. And so, my dear boss, signing the statement, asks:

- Where are you going?

- They'll give me an apartment.

- Will you be a mechanic?

- No. Plumber.

- Why?

“I’m telling you that they will give me an apartment. You don’t give!

- You won't get an apartment.

And if at the mine they even struck me off the lists for housing, then in a new place I was elected chairman of the housing and household commission for the distribution of housing to factory workers. The Lord always gives more than you ask for. I asked for at least a lorry for my mother - I got a four-room apartment in which we lived for 5 years. Children began to grow up and needed larger rooms. We wrote an application for consideration and forgot about it. The director begged me to move to a very important workshop for the poultry farm - an incubator. I agreed. The dear director died suddenly. The other did not know us at all, and he did not even have time for all of us, he had a lot of things to do. We lived like this for two more years.

In our village, semi-detached houses were built for the management staff. Once, after the end of the shift, we go out through the checkpoint to the buses to go home, at the same time people leave the Administrative Department, where the trade union Factory Committee met and distributed these same cottages. Familiar guys came up to me with congratulations on the allocation of a cottage to me. Took it for a joke, but it turned out to be true. We moved to a new semi-detached house with personal plot... The house had three rooms and a huge veranda, which we converted into a nice fourth room. I got the house by the will of God so that I could learn to read in it Slavic language in a voice. We lived in it for 15 years and moved to Korkino already being a priest.

Why is it such a long and far from so easy way to get housing? Because it was necessary to immediately hear the will of God in my mother's words and obey: "Son, I ask the Lord all the time that you leave the mine." The will of God was expressed in words. I heard this and did not dare. I was thinking in the wrong place: I’ll leave the mine, quit my job, what will happen to me? And the Lord was preparing me to be His servant. What the mercy of God towards us who are hesitant and presumptuous!

Then, when I became a little smarter, I understood why the Lord had given me such a wondrous dwelling. He didn’t give it to me, He gave it to my mother. I asked Him for a warm lorry out of many millions of square meters for my mother. And, since my mother lived with me, and I with her, I and my family also got into this gift. Wonderful are Thy works, O Lord!

Maybe this is a complex example, here's a simpler example.

So, on February 23rd, by the day Soviet army, we got a four-room apartment in a five-story building. There is Great Lent, we are waiting for a joyful Easter.

The director is pleased. I leave the office, on the porch stands a very elderly and respected party organizer of the factory, Nikolai Ivanovich Klimenko. In the past, the honored chairman of the collective farm. We greeted politely. He is asking:

- Sergey Ivanovich, how is life young?

Unexpectedly for myself, I lied for the second time in my life.

This is what we, who ask for God's help, need to remember: what we ask from God and for what. The will of God is to lovingly help everyone.

An example for our requests, let the petition of the Saints and Righteous Godfather Joachim and Anna be, who, having an impeccable and pious life, prayed to God that He bless them with the birth of a child, whom they decided to give to the service of God. In their tearful and ardent petitions, all hope was put in the Lord, sacrificial love for Him and all hope: "Take away from us, O Lord, the reproach of barrenness, give us a Child, and we will give Him to You for Your glory." They thought that God would give a son so that he could be assigned to serve God in the temple of the Lord, but a Girl was born. But they gladly fulfilled their promise. It is great and ineffable joy for us that the Lord gave them a Girl, the Most Pure and Most Blessed Mary, who became the Mother of God and the Mother of the entire human race, the First Helper of all crying and grieving mothers.

Human civilizations have always worshiped gods. One or more, but certainly omnipotent. As a rule, all the deities created by the human imagination possessed and have a powerful character, and their attitude towards a person directly depends not only on his behavior, but also on the disposition of the spirit of the gods themselves. That is why looking for help from God, hoping for his favor is an ancient universal human tradition that has become an unconscious habit. And although, realizing the illusory nature of these hopes, folk wisdom bequeathed to us, hoping for God, not to make mistakes ourselves, the desire for protection and patronage from above has been preserved in our subconscious even today, in the century scientific experiments and technical advances.

By the way, it was precisely this cognitive progress that not only did not refute, but also confirmed the assumptions about the existence of a certain higher force capable of influencing what is happening in the physical world. And he strengthened the faith of those people for whom faith in divine support has always been indisputable. For thousands of years, they turned their requests to the Almighty and received an answer in the form of symbolic prompts, spiritual insight and even tangible help. Physics and psychologists find it difficult to explain the mechanism of action of this process even today, at the current level of development of science. And people who know how to ask for help from God, with good-natured readiness enlighten learned men.

You can ask God for help, support and strength. But remember that in most cases he does not answer directly, but indirectly. He will give you what you do not want, with the possibility of its implementation. But, if he thinks that you want something that will not do you good, he may refuse to help. Therefore, ask not for material things, but for spiritual things. Pray for endurance, confidence, and optimism.
