If you need to arrange a mirror in the country or a suburban area, then the option with the construction of a frame made of wood is the most preferable. If you wish, you can make such a design for an apartment, the main thing is to master the workflow and understand its main features. Wooden mirrors look great in a wide variety of environments, as long as they are neat and reliable.

  • Next, you need to prepare a mirror, you must know its exact dimensions in order to assemble the structure using these parameters. As a rule, mirrors are purchased in specialized stores, where they can be cut to the size that you give yourself, but you can also use old products that were previously in cabinets and other structures.

  • The next stage is cutting wooden elements at an angle of 45 degrees, in order not to be mistaken with the corners, we strongly recommend using a special device called a miter box. With its help, you will achieve a perfect match of the joints without any modifications, the work is done simply: a board is placed in the miter box according to the marks, a hacksaw or bow saw is inserted into a special slot, and the element is cut.

Important!
Do not forget that the dimensions of the cut elements are determined by the inner part of the future frame, and it is also necessary to take into account the size of the selected quarter, the mirror should ideally be located with a gap of 2-3 millimeters from the edge.

Assembly and finishing

At this stage, you have to perform the following work:

  • First of all, the elements are combined to check the geometric correctness of the design, be sure to try on a mirror to make sure that all the elements match... If necessary, you can carry out revision in order to start assembling with peace of mind.
  • It is not difficult to assemble the frame, to ensure strength, we recommend using this option - the ends are lubricated with carpentry glue, and a flat corner for frames is attached on the inside, this is the easiest way of fastening... To ensure the best strength, you can make cuts at the corners and insert dowels, they will securely fix the position of the elements and prevent them from moving relative to each other.

  • You can decorate the frame with curly cutting, for this a certain pattern is drawn on it and cut out using, you can simply apply a pattern and cut it out with a chisel, the simplest ornaments are simple and in execution, but the final result looks very attractive.

  • To protect the material and give it a certain effect, it is necessary to treat it with a special compound, it can be either paint or impregnation or glaze, which gives the material a certain shade. You can use special compounds that create a patina effect and artificially age the surface, the instructions on the package will tell you how to use them.
  • If you do not know how to glue a mirror to a tree, then just ask a special composition in a hardware store- liquid nails for mirrors and glasses - which provides excellent fixation reliability and retains its properties even in high humidity conditions. Additionally, several studs can be hammered into the groove from the back side, they will prevent the mirror from falling out.

Conclusion

Making a simple frame is not difficult, but if you want to get an original product, you will have to spend some time and effort. The video in this article will help you understand some of the features of the work in even more detail.

The mirror has been an indispensable attribute of human life for several centuries. It is difficult to imagine an apartment in which he is not - such a room will be strange, lifeless, devoid of the usual comfort. The decor of the mirror adds personality to any interior, especially if it is hand-made and not in a glass factory. Decorate this item in various ways, are made out in many styles, in more detail in our master classes on individual handmade techniques.

Basic rules, principles of decorating mirrors

This design direction uses all materials existing in nature, the industrial world, and their waste. Remnants of plinths and wood cuts, ice cream sticks and plastic dishes, threads and fabric, shells and stones, plastic and eggshells, beads and rhinestones, acrylic paints and paper - from all this, a unique, unique decor is created. Transparent silicone is usually used as an adhesive, and it is applied with a special gun. Silicone is neutral and acidic, they differ in price, setting time. In some cases PVA glue, "Titan" is used.

There are two decorating techniques:

  • decor outside the mirror - from cardboard, fiberboard, plywood, cut out the base of the desired shape, which should be chosen more than the object of decoration itself. Decorative elements glued along the edge, the base is dried, then a mirror is mounted on it, as if inserted into the frame;
  • decorating a mirror surface - the glue, along with the decorations, is applied directly to the object itself, which allows you to obtain an "openwork" design.

Industrial decoration of mirror elements is carried out by etching, cracking, engraving, applying colored enamels, lithography, painting, etc.

Decorating options for mirrors

Decor ideas suitable for different styles, there are a great many, here are just a few of them:

  • for the loft style, the frame for the mirror is made from the remnants of the laminate, pieces of brick;
  • in the interior nautical style it is decorated with seashells, flat stones;
  • for ethnic - the frame is woven from straw, decorated with dried flowers, varnished, dry cane tubes;
  • light linen fabric, ropes are used in provence;
  • an embroidered picture can become a mirror design in a classic style;
  • the industrial interior is decorated with colored broken glass, plastic spoons, forks;
  • for art-believe, the mirror will be perfectly formed with colored paper tubes;
  • frame for a hi-tech style mirror, mounted from pieces of chrome-plated metal, tubes, bolts.

With paper sticks or straws

Paper, one way or another, is in every home. Most often used for decorating mirrors:

  • glossy magazines - they don't even have to be painted;
  • newspapers;
  • cigarette paper;
  • cardboard egg trays;
  • napkins for decoupage.

To make a frame of tubes, they are twisted from newspaper, making the desired length and thickness. They are laid out on an unnecessary substrate, painted with acrylic from a spray can on all sides. After that, glue is applied to the mirror, preferably round, from behind - the silicone is bought necessarily neutral, acidic can easily destroy a thin mirror coating. Paper tubes are laid out in the form of a sun, a flower, they are dried horizontally for a day and a new decor item is hung on the wall. For rooms with high humidity this design is not suitable.

Sometimes, instead of paper tubes, they use plastic straws, rods from pens.

Plastic spoons

The larger the mirror, the more spoons you need. From them you need to cut off the scoops, which will later become the "petals" of the flower mirror, if you wish, paint them in the same color or different ones. Next, a piece of fiberboard, thick cardboard is cut out, the main decoration item is placed in the middle, which should be circled with a pencil, a marker - between this line and the edge of the frame, parts are glued in three to four or more rows. The frame is dried, a mirror is glued to the center, a day later it is hung on the wall. Such a mirror will perfectly fit into the interior of a light Art Nouveau bathroom, a romantic bedroom.

If instead of spoons, you use a wide part of the forks, the design will be no less interesting, but prickly. In the same technique, a frame is made from buttons, small CDs, parts of a children's designer.

Rope

The rope, the lace is chosen thicker, a real rope is suitable for a large mirror, a thin but strong twine, paracord for a small one. The base is cut out of cardboard, fiberboard, glue is applied to it, the lace is laid out coil by coil. The mirror can be glued at the very beginning, then a rope can be glued around it. For minimalism, use a bright, not too textured rope, for traditional - linen.

If you use threads, ropes of different colors, you get a "rainbow" striped frame.

Made of wood

The wooden frame fits perfectly into any modern interior, it can be made from:

  • wooden clothespins;
  • chopsticks for Chinese food, from ice cream;
  • oblique wood cuts;
  • slats, planks;
  • branches.

If clothespins can be simply fastened around the perimeter of a thin mirror, then other options will require a little more time and effort. When there is access to woodworking machines, tools, then the profile necessary for a beautiful design is cut from solid timber on one's own. Wooden slats, slats are bought in a store where everything for repair is available. They also sometimes provide services for sawing timber - you can ask for the slats to be cut at an angle of a certain length. At home, it will remain to fasten them together, paint, paint by hand, add carvings. For a curly frame made of wood, you need a jigsaw.

For the eco style, a piece of plywood or cardboard is cut out, larger than the mirror itself, which is glued into the middle. Around, on the base, pieces of wood, pegs, sticks, large chips, thin cuts of twigs, driftwood are glued, nailed - the mirror turns out to be, as it were, recessed in the frame. If the object of decoration is small, then it can be glued to a large wood saw cut, covered with varnish - it is better that it has bark. When ice cream sticks are used for decoration, they should first be varnished, dyed, painted.

The carved wooden frame is suitable for the Baroque style, decorated with driftwood - oriental, ethnic - decoration made of thin twigs intertwined with each other, wooden clothespins with folk patterns.

Seashells

Shells brought from the sea, the "shells" of snails used in the preparation of some dishes, can become original element decor. Most often they are used to decorate a nautical-style mirror - then it is hung against the background of photo wallpapers depicting a sea sunrise, sunset. The washbasins, painted with bright colors, will fit well into the futuristic interior, modern. Such a frame is most often placed in the bathroom, in the nursery.

If sea, river, lake shells have lost their color, they are soaked in ordinary bleach, then washed, dried, greased with sunflower oil, varnished. Next, a mirror is taken that has a frame or on a plywood, wooden base. The shells are glued symmetrically, at random - first large, then, between them, smaller ones. The frame is dried and varnished.

Many people use pearls, beads, beads, beautiful stones as an addition to seashells.

Mosaic, broken dishes

There is no need to rush to throw out the broken dishes, especially if they were beautiful “during life” - the pieces are easy to use as decoration.

Usually used:

  • broken colored glass, crystal;
  • shards of mirrors;
  • pieces of aluminum foil;
  • clay, porcelain shards;
  • broken ceramic tiles.

If special equipment is available, the glass is cut into pieces of any desired shape. Decorations are glued to a previously prepared surface according to the required pattern, the voids between the parts are filled with any grout, decorated with pebbles, sparkles, mother-of-pearl.

For the ecological style, clay shards are used, Provence - earthenware, the high-tech hallway is decorated with fragments of audio discs.

With gold leaf

Artificially aged frame is the best decor for the living room, expensive bedroom classic interior, pompous baroque and gothic styles.

Variants of the "old" design:

  • gilding;
  • bronzing;
  • silvering;
  • patination.

Decorating the frame with gold leaf creates a unique, luxurious piece. Tinsel is the thinnest golden film that is glued to the surface of an object for decorative purposes. It is produced in the form of squares with a side of 91.5 mm, but there are different thicknesses. For decorating pieces of furniture, the thinnest is used - with a ligature weight of 1-2 grams.

By color, gold leaf is:

  • white - contains palladium, silver;
  • lemon - has a large percentage of silver;
  • green - an alloy of silver and gold;
  • yellow - contains 75% gold, silver, copper;
  • orange - an alloy of copper and silver;
  • red - has a lot of copper in its composition;
  • pure - almost one hundred percent.

The material is sold in notebooks, packs, rolls, arranged with tissue paper.
Melted gold is produced in the form of a powder, which must be diluted by combining with tinsel.

From materials, tools you will need:

  • wooden frame - best of all carved, to the size of the mirror;
  • gold plates;
  • glue - skin, oil-based, alcohol-based;
  • paint for the background - if the gold coating is not solid.

First, paint is applied to the frame, dried, carefully pasted over with gold sheets, polished so that there are no seams, a mirror is fixed in the middle.

If you need to save a lot, instead of gold sheets, they use gold leaf - a thin foil that looks like gold, but without precious metals in the composition.

Mirror decor

This finish is applied in the form of a painting directly on the mirror surface, a variety of stickers on it. You can decorate the wardrobe door in the dressing room, oval, rectangular in the corridor, lobby, plasterboard partition, decorated with mirrors.

Of the materials, tools are most often used:

  • glass paints;
  • various stencils;
  • pebbles, beads;
  • beads, sequins;
  • textile, polymer lace;
  • thin, thick tassels.

For minimalism, modern style, you should use a mirror without a frame.

Transparent stones

In the "stone" decor, certain conditions must be adhered to:

  • do not place them too close to each other;
  • it is recommended to use stones of different sizes, colors;
  • you can lay them out according to pre-made stencils;
  • to glue not only along the very edge, but also locally in one or all corners.

A piece of jewelry made entirely of the same transparent stones will suit the minimalist style. Combined with plastic flowers, plants - a romantic style room, buttons, beads - for eclecticism, avant-garde. The glue is used transparent, it should be applied very carefully, carefully removing the excess. Usually a special one is used - for working with glass, rhinestones.

Such stones are often sold in stores - individually, in whole sets.

Hand-painted decoration

Wall mirrors, glass doors, dressing table are decorated with painting. If you have certain artistic skills, the surface is easily painted with wonderful patterns, using acrylic paints, brushes of various thicknesses.

Most popular topics:

  • New Year's patterns - like on the windows in winter;
  • fantastic birds, animals;
  • undersea world;
  • dot, "Kudrinskaya" painting;
  • geometric figures;
  • floral ornaments.

For a mirror in a Provence style nursery, light colors are used. IN classic bedroom teenage girls decorate surfaces with pastel-colored flowers, industrial kitchens with figures of steel colors. Hand painting of such a plan will take at least an hour.

Another way is coloring with dye cans through special stencils. Perforated decoupage napkins are perfect for this role. Rubberized napkins are chosen so that they can be easily removed. They are simply laid out on the surface, and spray paint is applied on top, after which it should be dried for several hours.

When doing fine hand painting, designers recommend using a special outline for working with glass.

Bead edging

The most "home" interior is obtained when using the design of mirror surfaces with beads. Often it is combined with pictures, cushions embroidered with beads, bugles. For a traditional, neoclassical bedroom, this is one of the best solutions.

Beads, beads, ideally, are selected from glass - so that they transmit light well without overloading the surface. The color scheme should fit well into the interior of the room, without creating dissonance with it. You can glue on a transparent silicone sealant, separating the decorated surface with adhesive tape. Separate volumetric elements made by stringing beads on wire, fishing line, thread can be used.

Popular topics:

  • sea waves of turquoise-white shades;
  • African, Old Russian ornaments;
  • butterflies, dragonflies;
  • geometric abstraction.

Accents from large transparent beads look great against the background of smaller details.

Mirror frame from the ceiling plinth with your own hands

Materials required:

  • furniture plywood;
  • scissors, sharp knife;
  • ruler, pencil, square;
  • glue "Titan", PVA;
  • acrylic dye;
  • clothesline or twine;
  • cloth sponge.

Step by step, the frame is done like this:

  • cuts are made at the base where a strong cord is inserted to hang the structure;
  • the mirror is glued to plywood;
  • cut the ceiling plinth, carefully working out the corners;
  • their ends are greased with Titan glue, pressed tightly against each other;
  • a special primer is applied to the baseboard, and when it dries - acrylic paint;
  • further, individual fragments are decorated with gold, silver, bronze paint;
  • a floral ornament is laid out from the remnants of a rope, lace, which is complemented by contour, dot painting, sparkles, rhinestones;
  • As additional elements, any available materials are used that are suitable in style. Sandriks, corner pieces, rosettes (they are cut into several parts), fragments of ceiling ornaments, moldings, etc. are also used.

    If possible, the pattern in the corners of the frame should be well chosen - it will come out much more beautiful.

Everyone can make a frame for a mirror with their own hands, it will become a real decoration in the house.

The mirror is an integral part of every apartment. In addition to its main purpose, it also helps to make the interior of the surrounding space more stylish and original.

In most cases, the mirror has a frame in the form of a frame, the decor of which can be very different.

Of course, today there is an opportunity to purchase this item in various retail chains, but not always the proposed decor can harmoniously fit into the already finished design of the room.

Meanwhile, if you wish, you can completely freely decorate the frame from the mirror with your own hands, and for this it is enough just to show a little imagination.

To design a mirror frame with your own hands, you can use absolutely any materials at hand, the main thing is that the idea is interesting and original.

Basic principles of frame design

A self-made frame for a mirror is a truly creative solution, since such a thing will be in a single copy, which in its essence is already unique.

To some, such an idea may seem quite difficult to implement with their own hands, but there is nothing to be afraid of, since such work mainly depends on imagination, and not on skills and experience.

You can see already ready-made solutions on the design of the mirror frame, and adding some of your own original ideas, make the decor even more stylish and daring.

For example, you can take an existing standard mirror frame as a basis and add some creative embellishments to it that will make you take a fresh look at this everyday object.

When decorating a frame for a mirror, you should also not overdo it with decoration, since an excessive amount of bright and catchy elements can lead to the opposite effect, when the mirror will stand out strongly from the general interior, which will break the harmony.

You can take a variety of objects as design elements for the mirror frame, for example, all kinds of wood or bamboo are perfect for these purposes.

The original decor of the mirror frame can be made using wire or rope. You can also use metal tubes, buttons, and even shells.

The main thing is that all this is harmoniously combined with each other and fit into the surrounding space.

To decorate a frame from a mirror, you can use a variety of techniques, and here it all depends on imagination.

At the same time, the design technology should not cause difficulties, and therefore absolutely everyone can do it with their own hands.

An excellent solution would be to use the decoupage technique, the main idea and principle of which is the additional design of an already finished item.

For these purposes, you can use anything you like, such as leather or fabrics, colored paper and much more.

All items are fastened together with glue or threads, however, it should be taken into account what the ready-made standard frame is made of.

There are many other techniques that allow you to perform original decor mirror frames.

Original frame options

Undoubtedly, the main element of any mirror is its frame. Everyone can make it without problems with their own hands.

To do this, you will need any wooden flat bar, for example, you can use the remains of a platband or baseboard.

Will need to be done on wood material a special recess into which the mirror itself can be easily inserted later.

To begin with, you should prepare blanks from the bars, of which there should be four, in accordance with the sides of the mirror.

They are cut in pairs, while the ends are sawn off at an angle of ninety degrees. To do this, a square is drawn at the end of each rail, each side of which must be equal to the width of the rail itself.

Then you need to make several corners from ordinary plywood with a width that will be one centimeter less than the width of the main frame. Next, these corners fasten the frame itself.

Small nails or self-tapping screws are suitable for these purposes.

To make the connection more rigid and durable, it is better to additionally fasten it with glue or liquid nails and only then use self-tapping screws or nails.

Then the mirror itself is inserted into the ready-made frame and a backdrop is made, which will not only hold the mirror itself, but also give additional strength to the frame.

It remains to make ears for hanging and decorate, and here everything depends only on imagination.

Ideas for decoration

To decorate the frame of the mirror, you can use absolutely any materials that can be found in the pantry.

For example, for these purposes, the most ordinary cassettes with staple staples, which are found in almost every home, are suitable.

With the help of glue, they are attached to the base of the frame and thereby receive an original decor in the form of a kind of sun.

Stylishly and at the same time functionally, you can arrange the frame using clothespins.

They are attached along the edges of the base and in addition to unusual decorations, clothespins can be additionally used for small reminder notes.

You can create an amazing mirror decor with your own hands using the most ordinary kebab skewers.

They should be attached to the frame at different angles, in addition, for greater originality, it is recommended to paint them in different colors.

Surely in every home there are all kinds of old hairpins that no one has used for a long time.

Meanwhile, showing imagination, they make an excellent design of the mirror frame.

Also, for these purposes, all kinds of wooden slats are perfect, which should be attached to the base in a different sequence, having previously covered with varnish. Broken dishes will be an excellent decor element.

Its fragments are glued to the mirror frame, thus creating a stylish decoration. You can also use the remnants of the tile.

A bold decision when creating a mirror decor would be to use old magazines and glossy newspapers.

They are pre-rolled into tubes, after which they are attached to the frame in a very different sequence with the help of glue.

The design of the mirror frame with the help of disposable spoons looks like a rather non-standard solution.

For a more stylish decor, they should first be covered with spray paint, and then attached to the glue to the frame itself.

Some craftsmen decorate the frame with pasta, in addition, many use ordinary buttons.

Seashells glued to the edges of the frame will also look great. All this can be done completely freely with your own hands, the main thing is to show your imagination and ingenuity as much as possible.

It is worth noting that the process of decorating a frame for a mirror itself is quite fascinating and interesting.

In addition to various interesting objects, you can also use various paints and varnishes.

All this work is completely free to do with your own hands and will certainly bring aesthetic satisfaction from the work performed.

You should not be afraid to implement even the most daring ideas, the main thing is not to overdo it and not make the decor of the mirror frame very clumsy and flashy.

Mirror frame made of paper tubes

Materials and tools:

  • 7 rolls of toilet paper;
  • a round piece of thick plywood;
  • round mirror;
  • black paint;
  • mirror mounts;
  • wire, rope or cord;
  • scissors;
  • glue gun (hot glue) and PVA glue.

Frame installation process

Step 1.

First, let's prepare the details for the frame. Take paper tubes and paint them well inside and outside with black paint. Let's leave to dry. Paint over the wooden base black. We also leave it to dry completely. Black will look stylish, but you can use any other paint you like.

Step 2.

After the bushings have dried, we press each of them and cut off one centimeter (5-6 pieces from one tube). They should look like leaves in shape. Thus, we cut all the bushings.

Step 3.

When the base for the mirror is dry, take a glue gun and apply it to the back of the mirror. Press the mirror firmly to the front side of the tree and leave the hot glue to cool completely. We put it aside.

Step 4.

  • We glue the cut leaf bushings together, 5 pieces each, as shown in the photo.

Please note that all groups of leaves must be the same. To do this, first we take 4 leaves and glue them with PVA at the corners to each other, and already glue the 5th leaf to them from above.

  • We repeat this until we glue all the 5 pieces of paper.
  • Glue the groups of sheets to the wooden frame of the mirror with a hot gun. We apply the glue pointwise, remove the excess immediately, until the glue dries.
  • This part of the work is perhaps the most responsible - you need to follow so that all the leaves are on the same level.

If you still have leaves, you can continue to glue them between the groups to make it look like the next photo.

Step 5.

The final stage of the master class is the manufacture of fasteners.

  • We take special fasteners for the mirror and we install it on the back of the wooden base in one or two places. If the mirror is not heavy, it will be enough in one.
  • We drag the wire, twine or rope through the mount and tighten. It turns out a loop.

Now you can hang a mirror in the room, or, for example, in the hallway. She looks so fashionable that no one would guess what such a patterned frame was made of.

Master class No. 2. Creative frame for an oval mirror

If you have ever used a glass cutter, making this frame will not be difficult for you. If you have never held it in your hands and are afraid to work with it - you are right on this master class. You will be able to overcome your fear, because it will be worth it!

Materials and tools:

  • glass cutter;
  • mirror (any will do - we will make the shape ourselves);
  • metal ruler;
  • scotch tape or adhesive paper (which does not leave marks on the mirror);
  • protractor (or corner);
  • marker;
  • a special knife that does not scratch the surface of the mirror;
  • gloves and goggles;
  • fine sandpaper;
  • gold paint (spray);
  • lacquer for fixing.

The procedure for installing such a mirror with your own hands:

Step 1.

Let's prepare a mirror - wipe it from dust and place it on a stable hard surface. We will make an original octagonal or oval mirror.

  1. If the mirror was square, good, you only need to cut off the corners from it.
  2. If it was round in shape, then you must first bring it to a square shape to make it easier to make an octagon.

Step 2.

  1. Cut off the corners of the square in the following way: apply a protractor or corner to the corner of the square, measure 45 degrees and make serifs on both sides. We repeat this around the entire perimeter of the mirror.
  2. Then, using a marker and a ruler, draw 4 lines through the serifs - these will be 4 cuts. If you feel more confident wearing glasses and gloves, put them on before starting work.
  3. We apply a metal ruler along the line and, holding tightly, making not strong pressure on the glass cutter, we draw it along the ruler.

This must be done carefully so that the glass cutter does not move off the line, otherwise you will have to do a lot of additional work.

After that, break off a piece of cut glass in one motion by pressing on it... Do not be afraid that the mirror will break, you will hear only a small click. Repeat on 4 sides.

Step 2.

After the mirror has become octagonal, we proceed directly to its framing. At first wipe it with detergent.

We glue adhesive paper on the entire front surface of the mirror. WITH use a marker and a ruler to mark the surface as shown in the photo.

In turn:

  1. we draw lines from each side to the opposite - it turned out 8 parts.
  2. Put points in the middle of each side and draw 2 identical squares along them (They will be at an angle to each other).
  3. Lastly, draw lines from the middle of each side to the midpoints of the adjacent sides.

Step 3.

We take a special knife that does not scratch the surface of the mirror and cut strips along the lines (according to the original plan).

The strips can be of any thickness, from 2-5 mm to 2 cm, as you like.

Note! That we do not cut out the very center - this will be an area without decor.

Step 4.

After all the strips have been cut out, the mirror is almost ready for painting. Before that, you need to lightly rub the edges of the mirror with sandpaper so that after painting there are no sloppy spots left.

Step 5.

Apply spray paint to the entire mirror and wait for the paint to dry. We also advise you to apply a second layer of varnish - later it will be more convenient to clean the mirror.

And now - the final stage of making a frame for a mirror with your own hands - remove the adhesive tape between the strips. Gently pry on and tighten, piece by piece. The whole drawing gradually appears.

The mirror is ready! You can place it on a table or hang it on the wall by attaching special clips. Now you know that working with a glass cutter opens up a lot of possibilities for improving your home interior.

Master class No. 6. Wire frame

Despite the use of such a simple improvised material as wire, the frame for the mirror made in this master class turns out to be interesting, iridescent and unique!

Materials and tools:

  • Mirror;
  • a sheet of expanded polystyrene (can be bought at a hardware store);
  • thick wires of gold (copper) color (5 packs);
  • gold-colored acrylic paint;
  • pencil or marker;
  • wire cutters (for wire);
  • glue gun (hot glue);
  • a piece of twine;
  • short nail;
  • scissors.

Build process

Step 1.

First, let's prepare the base for the mirror.

  1. We put a mirror on a sheet of expanded polystyrene. We outline with a pencil or marker. Now we measure another 2-3 cm from this circle and circle the second circle. Using this mark, cut a circle with a knife.
  2. Paint the base circle gold. You need to paint over evenly, from all sides. We leave to dry. After drying, we evaluate the color saturation and, if necessary, paint over a second time.

Step 2.

While the paint dries, we take the wire cutters and wire and cut the wires 30-50 cm in length. The length depends on how long you want to see the rays extending from the frame. Please note that the wire will fold in half.

Step 3.

We bend the wires, in half, but not perfectly straight, but with bends, as shown in the photo and as your inner voice advises you.

When all the wires are bent, and the base for the mirror is dry, we insert both ends of one wire into the expanded polystyrene.

You need to insert at one point and to a depth of 2-4 cm. This way the material will better hold the wires-rays.

Step 4.

We insert rays on 4 sides of the frame with a cross, in the direction in all directions of the world. Then we insert rays between them. This will give us an even distribution of rays in all directions. Don't be afraid of overlaps, it will not spoil the frame in any way, on the contrary, curved rays will add sparkle and variety. After all, we create, and therefore irregularities are not condemned here, but welcome!

Step 5.

We fix the mirror to the frame. To do this, apply hot glue to the back of the mirror and place it exactly in the center of the golden circle. Press firmly so that the glue seizes and leave until the glue cools completely.

Step 6.

While the glue is cooling down, let's make the final touch - a twine mirror mount. We measure the required length of the rope, cut it off and make a strong knot.

We push a short stud (slightly less than the thickness of the gold frame) through the knot and fix it with hot glue.

Immediately insert this stud from the back of the frame into the foam. Better not in the middle, but about 1/3 from the top edge of the frame.

Such a mirror can be hung on the wall in any room - it has earned the title of universal due to its light sophistication, simplicity of the materials from which it is made, and warm, golden, rich color.

Master class No. 5. Frame for the Cloud Mirror

Surely, all of you have ever paid attention to composite mirrors, when one large mirror is divided into several small ones. Do you want to try it yourself? Welcome to the workshop "DIY Mirror Frame - Cloud".

Materials and tools:

  • several small round mirrors (you can buy them at fixed-price stores);
  • foam board - plastic foam board (you can buy at a hardware store);
  • saucepan lids (for tracing circles);
  • pencil or marker;
  • newspaper or paper;
  • scissors and knife;
  • glue gun (hot glue);
  • PVA glue;
  • a hammer;
  • nails.

Frame production steps:

First, we make templates for mirrors.

  1. We take the lids from the pots that the diameter is 6-8 cm larger than the diameter of the mirrors and outline them with a marker on paper. Then we cut it out.
  2. When all the circles are cut, place them on a table or on any flat surface to determine how the mirrors will be placed.

In our example, it turns out that the 3 largest mirrors are placed at the bottom in an arc, and the other two complement them at the top.

Step 2.

  1. We glue the PVA glue the circles together - this will be a mirror template.
  2. After drying, we transfer the template to the foam board and circle it.
  3. You can attach mirrors and see how it will look.

Step 3.

If you are satisfied with the shape of the cloud, we cut out one solid figure from the foam panel with a knife - along the outer edges of the template.

This must be done smoothly and accurately, since this is the front side of the mirror.

Step 4.

We make holes for the mirrors. To do this, we again take a knife and make bushings for each mirror. They should be shallow in depth. But the most important thing is that they should not be wider, but a little narrower than the mirror, so that it fits snugly to its edges.

Step 5.

  • In two places where the mirror is supposed to be inserted, it is necessary to make fastenings. This must be done before the end of the work with the frame, because then you ruin the face of the mirror with holes.
  • Determine the center of gravity of the mirror and calculate where the mounts will be in order to evenly distribute the weight of the mirror. Let's mark them.
  • Then, with a pencil or an awl, we make 2 through holes in the frame. And only after that we proceed to insert the mirrors.

Step 6.

We take a heated glue gun and apply it to the entire back side of the mirror, press it firmly against the base and hold it a little. After a minute, the mirror can be released, the glue will cool down soon. The same procedure needs to be done with each mirror.

We hammer in 2 nails at a distance of the holes made in the frame. After that, we install the frame. As a result, the mirror-cloud with your own hands is already ready and hangs on the wall, delighting adults and children with its whiteness and glare.

So different in shape, material, size, color, style, price range ... mirrors for every home, for every taste and color. But there is no more unique and more beautiful than a mirror than what is done with your own hands. It contains a particle of your creativity, your look, your handwriting, so to speak. Make a mirror with your own hands and not only the interior in your room will change, but your reflection in the mirror will become more smiling, be sure!

Almost any old thing can be given new life... Even a product in this state can be easily transformed into something original, making it a unique designer item. Do-it-yourself mirror decor is an opportunity not only to decorate the interior with an unusual product, but also to give it a second life.

Change appearance Any mirror can be in two main ways - to arrange the glass sheet itself, or to create an unusual and original frame for it. Most often, of course, craftsmen and needlewomen choose the second option - it is much easier to think over a new frame format and insert a mirror into it, or glue a new frame directly onto the canvas.

On a note! In the case of creating a frame, the decor can be either outside the mirror or directly on it.

However, you should not be afraid to make decor using the mirror canvas itself. Now there are a lot of all kinds of materials and tools that will allow you to make unique applications and even mat the mirror in the right places.

To decorate mirrors of square, rectangular and similar shapes, it is easiest to use ordinary wooden borders, blocks, baseboards. Round and oval canvases are perfect option for experimentation. Here you can use wooden spatulas, and natural driftwood, twigs and much more.

On a note! Round mirrors are often transformed with wood into original suns or peculiar nests.

Some craftswomen who love to work with paper also use it to decorate mirrors. Often, egg packs are used, which easily turn into flowers. Special stickers or can be used. Do not think that paper is a completely useless material. With the correct technique of work, it will not quickly lose its appearance. But the mirror will turn out to be very unusual.

On a note! Sometimes quite unusual objects are also used - metal rulers, children's toys. In the first case, the rulers can be positioned around the mirror like the rays of the sun, in the second, toys are glued along the perimeter of the mirror in a certain pattern. This is a great option for a child's room.

Concerning natural materials, then stones, cones, shells can be used. The latter will look great in the bathroom. Moreover, the products can be glued both symmetrically and in different places, depending on the desire.

In any case, decorating a mirror with scrap materials is a truly creative process. You just need to weigh all your wishes, strengths, opportunities and think about which option to choose in this or that case.

Decor rules

Decorating a mirror is simple, but you should definitely follow a number of rules so as not to spoil the mirror base - then you will definitely have to throw it out. But following the rules is not difficult if you know them.

  1. If products with volume are used to decorate the mirror, then it is important to ensure that there are not very many of them, otherwise the finished structure will look cumbersome.
  2. When decorating bathroom mirrors, it is better to use moisture resistant materials.
  3. Any decor must be in harmony with the interior style.
  4. You need to stick any objects on the mirror using transparent silicone or a glue gun.

Attention! Silicone can be acidic or neutral. The first one, until it dries, has an unpleasant vinegar smell; you need to work with it only in a well-ventilated room. Also, acidic silicone is capable of corroding paint, which could have previously been coated on the product.

  1. Mirrors irregular shape it is not recommended to be placed in the frame. Smooth round or square mirrors look best in the frame.
  2. If a composition of several mirrors will be formed on the wall, then it is better to choose the same style for their design.

Workshops on creating beautiful mirrors

There are a lot of techniques and design options for mirror surfaces. The most interesting options are collected here for the readers.

Flower stencil on the mirror

It does not take much time and effort to create a mirror with beautiful bright colors around the edges. For work, brushes, acrylic paints, a pencil, a regular sponge, a selected stencil pattern, masking tape and nail polish remover, which can be replaced with acetone, will be used.

Attention! It is better not to use ordinary tape for working with a mirror. Sticky marks that remain after removal are very difficult to wash off.

Step 1. Everything that is needed for such a mirror design is being prepared. At the same time, it is advisable to get everything at once, so that later you will not be distracted from work to search for something missing.

Step 2. Stencils for decoration are used ready-made, purchased in a store or made independently from thick cardboard. They can be printed on a printer or translated using tracing paper. Any drawing can be used for decoration.

On a note! Acetone will be used if the drawing is damaged during application and requires removal.

Step 4. The stencil is attached with tape directly to the mirror in the chosen place. If it involves the use of several colors, then part of the pattern is also sealed with tape so as not to apply paint in the wrong place. Only sections of the stencil are left open, which will be painted over with one color. The locations of the stencils are planned in advance.

Step 5. The pattern is painted over with a brush or sponge. When places of the same color are painted over, you can move on to other areas, gradually removing the tape. In some cases, the contours of the pattern can be additionally drawn with a thin brush after removing the stencil.

Step 6. In this case, the mirror is additionally decorated with pink dots, which are applied with a brush around the perimeter. Decorating is complete. Such a mirror can be hung in the bathroom, since acrylic paints will not be afraid of water. If desired, the pattern can be changed by simply erasing the old one with acetone.

Sometimes stained glass paints are used to decorate the mirror. Better to buy those that do not require baking. They are sold in an art store.

Decorating with pipes

Probably few people would have guessed to use polypropylene plumbing pipes for decorating mirrors! It turns out that with their help you can design any mirror in a very original way, the main thing is that this option is combined with the interior style. The work will require cutting pipes of the same or different diameters, a sawing or cutting tool for cutting them, sandpaper and a glue gun.

Step 1. Neat, even rings of the same width are cut from polypropylene pipes. The easiest way to do this is with a fine-toothed miter saw.

Step 2. After cutting, the cuts of the rings are sanded with sandpaper so that they are neat and smooth.

Step 3. All rings according to the selected scheme are glued together with a glue gun. The final shape of a kind of frame can be either round or square - the main thing is that it should be in the shape of a mirror.

Step 4. The mirror itself is glued to the rings in the selected place with a glue gun. You only need to hang the finished product by the mirror itself.

Matting the mirror with our own hands

A mirror with a matte pattern looks very original. For work, you will need a drawing created on adhesive film according to a stencil, a piece of mounting film the size of a mirror, a special paste for matting, a sponge.

Step 1. To get a stencil for a mirror, the details of this drawing are taken out from the adhesive film where the pattern is applied. In this case, these are leaves, grapes and other elements. In order for the drawing to be already cut, it is better to order and print such a stencil in a specialized company. You can cut the pattern yourself, but this will require the use of a clerical knife. It is important to work very carefully in this case. What is highlighted in white in the image will be the finished matte drawing on the surface of the mirror.

Step 2. A mounting film is applied to the printed film. The lower protective layer is removed from it and the film is gradually glued to the surface of the pattern and rolled with a roller. A mounting film is needed to easily transfer the pattern to the mirror.

Step 3. Now, from all this film cake, the lowest protective layer is gradually peeled off. The film is glued to the mirror, the protective layer is peeled off in stages. The film rolls well with a roller.

Step 4. The mounting film is removed from the surface of the pattern. It is important to make sure that the drawing does not reach for it.

Step 6. When the required time has passed, the paste is removed with a plastic scraper. It is reusable, you can simply scrape it off and put it in a jar.

Step 7. The mirror itself is washed with water.

Step 8. The patterned film is removed from the mirror surface.

Making a beautiful frame

A very nice mirror frame can be made from ceiling moldings. This will require thick cardboard or plywood, ceiling baguettes(a couple of pieces), square mirror, acrylic putty, foam glue, acrylic paints (black and silver), decorative silver cord, hard and soft brushes, palette knife or kitchen knife, as well as a stationery knife. To avoid getting your hands dirty, you can wear gloves.

Step 1. Guided by the size of the mirror, 4 parts of the same size are cut off - parts of the frame. The corners for joining are cut along the square with a clerical knife.

Step 2. The parts are glued together with glue to form a blank for the frame.

Step 3. After the glue dries, the frame is turned over and, from the inside, the joints between its individual parts are putty. This will make the frame stronger.

Step 4. Outside, the frame is also putty, but not completely, but at the joints of the baguettes and along the inner edge.

Step 5. When the putty dries, the frame is painted black. The inner border also stains well.

Step 6. When the black paint is dry, you will need to apply silver paint to the raised portions of the frame. It is applied with a sponge so that the frame remains black in the recesses of the pattern.

Step 7. After all layers of paint have dried, the frame is covered with acrylic varnish. It is white, but after drying it will become transparent.

Step 8. A hole is made in a piece of cardboard or plywood, cut to the shape of a mirror, but with allowances for the frame, to hang the mirror.

Step 9. The mirror itself is glued to the center of the base.

Step 10. So that there is no void between the frame and the mirror, a decorative cord is glued to the inner border.

Step 11. The frame is glued to the base on which the glued mirror is already located.

Step 12. After the whole structure is dry, a layer of putty, black and silver paint is applied to the side of the frame. All layers are applied in stages, after preliminary drying of each of them.

And at the end - silver
