The station in Plesetsk primarily serves as a transport hub for the nearby cosmodrome of the same name. The station was electrified only in 1998, and little has changed since then.

for work or for other reasons. For many lay people, this is a kind of starting point from which life in the city begins, and the last thing they see off with their eyes when they leave it.

"Mammoth Road"

How much do we know about its history, going up and down from the station platform? But the legacy of Plesetskaya is inextricably linked with the history of the Northern Railway and many upheavals that our country experienced in the 19th and 20th centuries. Three wars, intervention, explosions and fires, human heroism and tragedies - everything affected this provincial section of the Northern Railway, 1.5 km long. Congratulating the railway workers on their professional holiday, celebrated on the first Sunday of August, let's remember the key points.

The construction of a narrow-gauge railway along the line Vologda - Arkhangelsk lasted 3 years, from 1894, in the swamps of huge swamps, in dense forests. This became possible thanks to the efforts of a major entrepreneur and philanthropist, chairman of the Joint Stock Company of the Moscow-Yaroslavl Railway Savva Mamontov, who saw in the development of transport communication great importance for the economic development of the Russian North. The road was laid on both sides, from Vologda and Arkhangelsk, and on March 25, 1897, south of Plesetskaya station (near Lepsha station), the rails finally closed. On November 3, 1898, regular train traffic was opened.

From Pletsov to Plesetskaya.

In the same 1894, preparations began for the construction of railway stations. The first, along with Plesetskaya, were Yemtsa, Obozerskaya and Levashka (now Kholmogorskaya). The railway station and other buildings of the Plesetskaya station were laid in 1895. The first station can be seen in the photo of 1898 - it is a wooden building under a high roof with hip sections, in the so-called "Swiss" style. After some time, peasants from the village of Pletsy began to settle in the station and the place around it, and they also began to work on it.

From war to war.

With the outbreak of the First World War, the narrow-gauge capacity of 2 passenger and 6-7 freight trains at a speed of 12-15 miles per hour ceased to meet the needs of the country, and in 1915 the Vologda-Arkhangelsk section became broad-gauge.

In the years civil war Plesetskaya became an important object of strategic importance and passed from hand to hand several times from the White Guards and interventionists to the Red Army. Here, in 1918, the 1st Onega partisan detachment was created, which went to fight the British invaders. During the war years, the station suffered colossal losses, becoming a pile of ruins: the station burned down, the water pump was blown up, the track switches and links of the station tracks were stolen or destroyed during shelling, equipment was crumpled. After the end of the war, railroad workers stood up to fight the devastation. Thanks to the special provision introduced by the Council of Labor and Defense, the All-Russian Communist Subbotnik and Repair Week managed to clear the way, prepare fuel and firewood for refueling locomotives, and repair equipment. After the war, life began to boil not only on the railway, but also in the village, which began to be built from the railway crossing along the St. Petersburg highway. The complete restoration of the Northern Railways was completed in 1925.

Since the end of the 1920s, the importance of the Northern Railway in the mass transportation of both goods and passengers has increased significantly. And right up to 1941, positive changes took place at the Plesetskaya station: railway transport and tracks were reconstructed, productivity and throughput increased.

Did not pass Plesetskaya and Velikaya Patriotic War. In 1942, groups of fascist saboteurs began to appear in the area of the road. Once, between the Timme junction and the Sheleks station, saboteurs blew up the tracks. A fire broke out on the derailed locomotive and wagons, and the driver was killed. As in the whole country, the Plesetskaya railway workers gave their all to work, everything in order to bring the long-awaited peace closer. This is evidenced by the fact that the station staff was repeatedly awarded the challenge Red Banner of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions and the Ministry of Railways, the administration of the Northern Railway and the department.

Plesetskaya today.

Today's small but friendly staff of the station, working under the guidance of
young and energetic boss Evgeny Ivanov, still takes care to bring passengers and cargo from point A to point B safely and on time. Many employees of the Plesetskaya station deserve respect and honor for conscientious work and discipline. For many years now, both Nina Zvereva, who has worked at the station for 20 years, and young specialist Alexei Lyakh have been impeccably fulfilling their duties. Labor dynasties are also famous for their responsibility, there are many of them at the station, among them the families of Egorovs, Savka, Golikovs, Zverevs and others.

It is impossible to overestimate the work of the railway worker, who, starting from the construction of the road, invested in it not only his labor and strength, but often gave his health, and sometimes his life. As the historian Nikolai Aleksandrovich Makarov writes in his book Plesetskaya Land: “The railway is our heritage, our history, our past, and, of course, our future. The road gave life to the stations of the Plesetsk region. And behind all this is the great, hard, creative work of people. Engineers and station attendants, couplers and conductors, cashiers and acceptance agents, supervisors and ordinary workers - they continue to work even now, tensely, with great responsibility, peering into the distance with anxiety and hope, following the parallels of the rails converging on the horizon, following the departing trains ...

THE IRONY OF FATE.

It's a shame, but the name of Savva Ivanovich Mamontov, who gave so much strength, energy, money, who lost not only his reputation and a huge part of his fortune, but also his health due to unfair accusations of mercenary embezzlement, was never immortalized at any station of the Northern Railway. Such ingratitude was repaid to one of the most disinterested Russian enthusiasts and patrons of the arts.

Fatal road.

“Costs for the construction of the road and for repair and restoration work to put it into operation due to complex natural conditions, exacerbated by the coming industrial crisis in Russia, were so great that Joint-stock company headed by S. I. Mamontov found himself in a difficult financial situation. Finance Minister Count Sergei Yulievich Witte accused S.I. Mamontov in overspending for selfish purposes. A criminal case was initiated against Mamontov. On September 11, 1899, he was arrested and placed in the Taganka prison. In June 1900, a trial was held, all the charges were declared untenable, the prosecutor's accusations were rejected by the jury and they delivered a verdict of not guilty. For 5 months of imprisonment, his strength and health were torn, and he himself was ruined. His brainchild, his life's work, the railroad was no longer his. While Savva Ivanovich was in prison, the Minister of Finance ensured that all shares of the company were alienated to the state treasury practically for next to nothing.

SERIOUS EXPERIENCE.

Elena Alexandrovna Ryabkova, acceptance officer at Plesetskaya station, has been working here for 30 years
- The work here is lively, I was once offered to move to another position, but I can’t sit in one place: we accept wagons, cargo, form trains, send wagons, work with clients, unload and load cargo, a lot of documentation. What is keeping me here? Somehow I got used to it, and I love doing my job. The most difficult thing is that we have a very big responsibility, because the goods go to all corners of Russia. I wish my colleagues, first of all, patience, health, good luck, and all the best!

YOUNGER GENERATION.

Iya Zherdyaeva, the station attendant, sitting at the control panel with many buttons and levers, always dreamed of this job, which she knew about from the stories of relatives working at the station. On her third station duty, the young girl confidently forms trains, receives and sends trains.

Of course, it was scary at first. But now I'm doing fine. Our job is to receive and send trains. Plesetskaya is not only a passenger station, but also a freight one, we form trains, dispatch incoming cargo and passengers. It’s hard, of course, to work in tension all the time, but what can you do. But I like everything, it is necessary to plan, looking at the scheme of the station, how and where to make maneuvers. Trains come from all directions, so everything must be done on time and in sync, without unscheduled stops.

(In preparing the article, materials from the book by N.A. Makarov "Plesetskaya Land", the historical and architectural essay by V.A. Smetanin "Mamontov's Road", photographs and materials from the exposition "Plesetskaya Station" of the Plesetsk Regional Library)
