For admission to the MARCH undergraduate program, an applicant must submit their creative work, which would allow them to assess their interests and artistic skills.

The portfolio can include author's developments in any creative fields: graphics, drawing, painting, photography, decorative art, all types of design, animation. It is desirable that the portfolio includes photographs of layouts and objects made by applicants, and related graphics that demonstrate the basics of projection drawing. We also recommend that you bring articles, essays, and research materials such as sketchbooks and creative diaries to the entrance exams.

The portfolio can be presented in printed form, which will allow it to be evaluated as a work of art that reflects the personality of the applicant. When evaluating, both the level of the submitted works and the quality of the portfolio design are taken into account.

If you do not have enough materials to create a portfolio, we recommend that you start studying at MARCH with.

Along with the discussion of works from the portfolio, the history of their appearance and the context of creation, during the interview, the applicant will be asked to tell about himself, his acquaintance with architecture and understanding of its role, as well as design experience in case of admission to the master's program. We will ask questions about the course of study or practice, about the motivation to become an architect, about getting to know the work of modern architects, designers and artists, about their influence on the professional development of an applicant. Several questions will be asked in English to determine the approximate level of language proficiency.

March on vacation in Germany. Study trip with WERNER SOBEK

This summer, WERNER SOBEK together with ThyssenKrupp, Schüco, Stahlbau Pichler and Raico organized a trip to Germany for a group of undergraduate students from the MARCH School of Architecture. The journey lasted several days, each of which was filled with new impressions and discoveries. The students visited the offices of Werner Sobeck, the campus of the University of Stuttgart and the Institute for Lightweight Constructions, the innovation center of Rottweil, the Weissenhof residential complex, the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the city library in Stuttgart.

Message from MARCH Rector Yevgeny Assa and School Principal Nikita Tokarev

A building can become and be beautiful even without decorations, thanks to its proportions alone.

The current trend in educational policy is that the availability of education is inversely proportional to the desire to learn. Universities are closed like street stalls, and state universities are stingy on budget places. But if you ignore the cherished crust and tune in to the wave of active knowledge, then you can still learn. Moreover, to study with interest and at your own pace - not falling into the Procrustean bed of schedules, hard deadlines and endless financial costs. So, here's a digest of alternative ways to learn more about architecture, improve your skills, and even get a degree.

All about architecture and architects

The portal architecturecourses.org was created by a group of Canadian designers and architects who decided to help students with accessible educational materials. Over time, the project grew into a serious system of training courses. They are popular with established professionals and amateurs alike.

It contains a lot of information on design and architecture. You can delve into the history of architecture and understand the variety of styles, learn to distinguish the subtleties of national architectures or delve into professional terminology. The Design section features two main courses: Design Elements and Principles. As a useful bonus - a detailed guide for novice architects, which reveals the pros and cons of the profession and gives advice on choosing internships. In the "links" section, architecture textbooks are available for free download, however, in an inconvenient txt format.

For whom:

designed for students, but it will be interesting for everyone who wants to expand their knowledge

Fine:

For free

High quality illustrative material

The site is well structured

Badly:

Mostly textual information, which is occasionally diluted with illustrations. Missing media

Open education at Moscow Architectural Institute

MARCHI open educational courses have been available to a wide audience since 2009. All programs are divided into three groups according to the criterion of three-stage education: there are courses for applicants, for students and for teachers who improve their qualifications. A certificate is not issued upon completion of the course, but nothing is required from the student. By selecting the course of interest, the student goes to the section of lectures, which are available in pdf format. Lectures are accompanied by lists of additional literature, as well as tasks for self-study. The topics of the courses are very specific, no general "architectures in human life". Particularly interesting are programs devoted to the study of legal issues: intellectual property in architecture, urban planning code.

For whom:

popular with applicants, but it will also be interesting for professionals

Fine:

All courses in Russian

For free

Popular Topics

Additional materials

Badly:

No feedback. Many assignments for lectures consist in working on an essay, which, alas, no one can check.

3

Lectures from Yale and Beyond

The portal academicearth.org is developing with the slogan "Watch, learn, share, discuss". This is a great example of affordable and high-quality education that activates consciousness and generates discussions. Here are collected video courses covering almost all scientific fields. Lectures are delivered by professors from the best universities in the world. Architecture is worthily represented by Yale University with a series of lectures on Roman architecture. The architecture section also contains a series of four lectures, "God, Caesar and Robin Hood: how the Middle Ages were built."

For whom:

for anyone who speaks English

Fine:

For free

Convenient search

There are thematic playlists of lectures

Badly:

Only 2 courses are offered in architecture

4

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

Architectural Workshop

The institute offers a wide range of distance learning programs, including several courses in architecture and the basics of design. Of particular interest is the Building in Landscapes course, which is devoted to the problem of combining natural landscapes with architectural objects. On the course page there are videos from lectures, and notes with illustrations are attached to them.

For whom:

The annotations to the courses indicate the expected level of preparation of the student (student or graduate student). But in fact, anyone can delve into the architectural subtleties

Fine:

Large selection of programs

The course of lectures can be downloaded in one fell swoop in the archive, or you can watch online

Badly:

The quality of the video is "YouTube", but it leaves much to be desired. Layouts that explain material sometimes blend into a faded spot due to a fuzzy image

Course in English

University of the Arts LondonSaintMartins

Architectural Drawing Course

To master the basics of drawing, it is not necessary to go to London. The author's course, developed by an Icelandic architect, combines online seminars and home self-study. The study lasts two months, and live sessions - these same seminars - are held once a week. Architectural knowledge is received in mini-groups of 8-12 people: not a single student will be left without attention. To communicate with the teacher, get a portion of theoretical information from him, as well as discuss your homework, just turn on the webcam. And real geographical distances, which in the case of classical education often block the student's path to a dream, are not a hindrance here, on an online course. Classes begin on October 17, but there are many who want to, and applications must be submitted in advance.

For whom:

People from 18 years old who are interested in architecture are invited to the classes. Special education is not required.

Fine:

Dialogue with the teacher

Combination of practice and theory

Badly:

Seminars and assignments are in English, so to participate in the program you will need an IETELS certificate with a score of at least 5 in speaking and writing

Pleasure is not the cheapest. For a two-month intensive training, you will have to pay 425 pounds, that is, about 22 thousand rubles

When forming groups, the level of preparation of students is not taken into account. So, an inquisitive beginner can be a burden to a more savvy student.

March to MARCH!

The Moscow School of Architecture offers master's programs with a degree from the University of London, but the cost of such training is prohibitive for most. But in the summer, MARCH oversees a non-profit project: the round pavilion "School" opens in the Museum, where meetings with architects are held. This summer, Cornell University students even came and participated in the discussion "Neighbourhood: a view from New York." According to the announcements, the school is open from May 23 to September 20, but for some reason the lecture schedule has not been updated since June.

For whom:

for connoisseurs of quality social spaces and interesting discussions

Fine:

For free

The pavilion is located in the center of city life

Badly:

The MARCH summer school works rather in an entertaining format

In addition to free lectures in the pavilion, in the summer MARCH recruits students for special courses (this summer there was a course "Architecture of Light"), but for such a pleasure you will have to pay 40 thousand rubles

7

Exploring urban spaces in Strelka

The Strelka Institute of Media, Architecture and Design also has a free summer school, but the nine-month program is more interesting here, integrating a cycle of humanitarian knowledge: economics, sociology, politics, architecture and culture. The study of these disciplines, according to the organizers, helps to invent the future. Here they are engaged in the study of social spaces, address the problems of urbanism and do research work.

For whom:

for people 25-35 years old with a university degree in architecture, media or design, fluent in English (IETELS certificate with a score of at least 6.5 is required). The main criterion: the desire to change the world

Fine:

Free, and even a monthly stipend of 980 euros

A rich curriculum that combines practice and theory

Badly:

Difficult to enter

8

GSSD at MARCHI: changing career guidance

The Higher School of Environmental Design has been operating since 1999. Upon admission, you do not need to take exams: you need a desire to immerse yourself in the profession and material wealth (each thematic module will cost 33 thousand rubles). An applicant to the School can choose short-term courses (4-8 months) or become a student of a full-fledged two-year program. It all depends on how many topics the student is willing to master. If he decides to become a multidisciplinary designer and chooses a full two years, then after defending his graduation project (by the way, the topic is chosen by the student himself), he will receive an accredited diploma from the Moscow School of Architecture, which is appreciated by employers and opens the door to the world of designer freelance.

For whom:

The majority of students are people with non-core education. Lawyers, doctors, ballerinas come to HSSD, but there are also architects

Fine:

Students can model the curriculum themselves by choosing thematic modules that are interesting for themselves

Flexible schedule. You can study at HSSD both in the morning (from 10 am to 1 pm) and in the evening (from 6 pm to 9 pm). Classes are held 2-3 times a week

Twice a year, the School organizes festivals, which showcase the work of not only HSSD students, but also students of other universities and colleges, as well as professional architects

HSSD cooperates with several European universities, so program participants can go on an internship abroad

Atmosphere. Classes are held within the walls of the Moscow Architectural Institute. The space is inspiring. The walls here are flooded with soft sunlight, and the dormer windows overlook old Moscow.

Badly:

Education is expensive

It is difficult for students to work with specialized programs (AutoCAD, Photoshop, etc.). You will have to learn how to manage them in parallel with the main course

Welcome to the Home Design Education Center. Let's get acquainted. My name is Vitaly Zlobin, I am a practicing architect and head of a design company. I have two diplomas of higher architectural education and postgraduate studies at the Moscow Architectural Institute, plus 10 years of experience as a practicing architect. I started out as a humble assistant architect and now lead the design team. Together we create projects of country houses, according to which builders build houses without delay and questions.

I have always been interested in optimization and automation of project activities. This allowed us in a short time to enter the production of 4-5 individual complete projects of capital houses with an area of 200-500 sq.m. per month, while the average architectural bureau does no more than one or two.

I put my experience into this site and various training programs. Dozens of students have already used them, having gained invaluable experience in creating projects for country houses. The algorithm for creating a country house project, tested by professionals, became available to students. Our site continues to be filled with interesting and useful information.

Don't forget to add me as a friend Facebook.

Course presentation

Format: individual training.

Attention! The course is not suitable for collective purchase, because 30% of the information is given by the architect personally in individual work with the student. This is protection against piracy and taking into account the individual requirements of the student, who concludes an official contract before taking the course and receives a personalized certificate upon completion.

5 stages The course will teach you how to make projects of country houses for construction. You will know common mistakes. You will understand which algorithms are important in your work and study them. You will master the tools for creating a country house project already at the first stages of training. Each stage includes recorded lessons, handouts, group lessons and individual work with the teacher.

Attention!!! We teach the design of detached residential buildings with no more than three floors, designed for one family.

The course is designed for

1. Customers about to build their house.

Who knows better what your dream home should be like? Of course, only you! So why can't you make a project? Control the costs of construction, foreman and workers?

If you don't know how to make a house plan and save up to 500,000 rubles on design and construction, then right now you can go through the path of creating YOUR project from A to Z and see all the pitfalls with an experienced architect. This will allow you to save up to 30% of the construction cost.

2. interior designers.

Expand your professional competence and create country house projects yourself. Do you often have to work on a ready-made architectural project? And this is the framework for any design idea. After all, the architecture of the house (shape, style, materials) already dictates the concept of interior design.

If you have an architectural education, but you are engaged in interior design, you cannot make a full-fledged project of a country house without practice. The course gives a 100% practical approach. Are your customers often interested in a house project? I think yes. So answer them positively and start earning more on your services.

3. Builders.

Your knowledge and skills will be a good help for gaining new knowledge and developing the skills of a practical designer. How often have you had such that the customer asked about the possibility of developing a project, and you answered him with a refusal? Have you often had to build and carry out finishing without a project? If you could make projects yourself, it would solve a lot of problems. Build according to your projects and offer a full range of services to your customers.

In order to make sure whether you need this course or not, answer the following questions:

  1. Do you want to create your own country house project, made according to all the rules and standards?

  2. Have you looked through a bunch of magazines and websites in search of beautiful houses, but, in the end, came to the conclusion that they also need to be designed correctly?

  3. Have clients approached you for the design of country houses?

  4. Did you refuse them because of doubts about your abilities?

  5. Do you make projects by hand (draw on the cells in a notebook), but would you like to own computer programs?

  6. Do you know how to build a house, but do not know how to make a project according to all standards?

  7. Do you lack the knowledge and skills to reach a higher level of designing country houses?

The course consists of the following steps

Stage 1

Learning the program for creating layouts >>>

A powerful package for BIM-design, which combines the ability to create drawings with any degree of detail and create a 3D model. And all this without leaving one program! A user-friendly interface and a well-functioning design system will be understandable even to people who are farthest from creating projects for country houses (the current version is in the lessons of ArchiCAD 16 or 17).

In the ArchiCAD program you will learn drawing (creating layouts). You can easily arrange drawings in any format.

The result is the skills and abilities of fast and high-quality drawing:

After studying the 1st stage, you are guaranteed to be able to work in the field of design, carry out drawings of country houses. However, in order to learn how to create country house projects, you yourself need to go through the following stages of the course.

Stage 2

Learning 3D modeling and visualization tools (creating photorealistic images) >>>

After you learn how to create layouts for country houses, you need to explore the possibility of 3D modeling and a visualization package. Photorealistic images are the cover of your project, this is what customers look at first.

We continue to study ArchiCAD, but for 3D modeling:

Then Artlantis:

There is also a special opportunity to study:

Inferior in terms of capabilities to the ArchiCAD program (it is not a BIM design program), but it wins in the simplicity and speed of creating a project. The program is more suitable for draft design. In it, you can quickly and efficiently create a 3D model of a country house and schematic drawings. And most importantly, this is a built-in Vray plugin for photorealistic rendering.

Result:

After passing the 2nd stage, your arsenal will be significantly enriched. Now you can not only make drawings, but also create photorealistic images of projects.

Stage 3

Fundamentals of architectural design of cottages (creation of an album with sketch drawings) >>>

In order for the customer to understand what his future home will be like, an album with a Draft Design is needed. In this project you advertise yourself: its individual design, content and availability of your contact details - all this is the best calling card of you and your business. This album displays all the information on a country house in the form of schematic images of the site plan, plans of all floors, sections, facades, as well as the selection of finishing materials. The stage is divided into large parts:

Part 1. Fundamentals of drawing in architectural design.

Part 2. The premises of the house and the algorithm for creating convenient layouts.

Part 3 Volumetric-spatial and constructive modeling of the house.

Part 4 Rules for designing an album with a draft design of a country house.

Part 5 Scheme of the planning organization of the land plot (master plan scheme).

Result:

After passing 3rd stage, when you design your first country house as part of the stage, you will understand the whole logic of creating a project and are guaranteed to be able to carry out Draft designs of country houses.

After you know the composition of the project and the basics of design, you can go to a higher level and build luxury homes:

However, it will be difficult to build according to your drawings, because. working drawings of a country house are needed. You will learn how to perform them in the following steps.

Stage 4

Specialization in design by choice and calculations >>>:

  1. Wooden frame houses;
  2. Stone houses (houses made of foam blocks and bricks).

The market is arranged in such a way that it is more profitable for beginners to start working in one narrow design niche and achieve results in it. So there are more chances to gain a foothold and find your target audience. Study the design features in one or more of the most popular niches in Russia and the CIS countries and you are guaranteed to become a specialist in your chosen niche.

Specialization gives in-depth understanding of a particular construction technology. The project must take into account all the design features of the technology. The type of foundations, wall thickness, span width, etc. depend on this. The material also affects the value of the house and planning decisions. You have the opportunity to study two specializations.

The stage is under constant development. I record videos on new construction technologies, materials and calculations, and also conduct private webinars.

Structure of the section with calculations of the 4th stage for 2017

See an example of calculating wooden floor beams and roof rafters.

Stage 5

Project for the construction of a country house (creation of an Album with working drawings) >>> .

So, you own design programs, you know how to create a draft design of a country house using various building technologies. Now it's time to learn how to create a working draft of a country house. These are the drawings that builders receive, and according to which they build a country house.

Result (approximate amount of documentation):

An example of the implementation of our working project of a house in the village. Maryino, 2014 (click to enlarge)

Author and course leader

  • A man who connected his life with suburban architecture.
  • Author and presenter of courses and trainings on the design of country houses.
  • Head of the design and construction organization HOMESPRO:

How much does it cost? - choose a program:

Is it expensive or not?

For customers who want to design their own house on their own: compare the cost of training with the cost of designing a country house in companies - this is about 800-1200 rub/sq.m. In addition, do not forget that during the training you will gain invaluable experience and architectural and construction knowledge, which will allow you to control the entire construction process and not overpay.

For designers who want to learn how to design country houses: the price of education in an architectural and civil engineering university is about 200-300 thousand rubles per year, multiply by 5-6 years of study and compare with the cost of our courses.

Obviously, the sooner you start taking the course, the it will be better for you, because the prices for expert knowledge in the field of suburban construction are rising every year.

Guaranteed learning outcomes
