1. "Flash card circle"

Take flash cards with learned vocabulary. Asking the question “What’s this?” Give out the flashcards one by one to the students who have named the word correctly. If the student answers incorrectly - he does not receive the card, then the next student answers your question. Thus, most students have a map in their hands. Ask the children to stand in a circle. Now everyone passes their card to the neighbor on their right and names it. A moving circle of cards is formed. You say "Stop!" Ask students to name the newfound cards. The game is played several times until everyone has called most of the words from the flash cards.

During the game, students can be encouraged with tokens, then the participant with the most tokens will become the winner.

You can complicate the task - to name not only the word on the card, but a phrase or a simple sentence, or name the opposite word.

The game can be carried out at the stage of consolidation of the studied material, as well as at the stage of control.

2. “Noughts and crosses”

Draw a 3x3 table on the board. Label columns a, b, c and rows 1, 2, 3. Place an upside-down flashcard in each cell. Divide the participants into 2 teams: tic and toe. The teams take turns calling the cell in which the card is located, opening it, and calling the word. If the word is named correctly, the teacher removes the card and puts a cross or zero. The team that reveals 3 cards diagonally, vertically or horizontally wins. You can increase the number of cells (9, 16, 25), depending on the number of learned words.

3. "Cross the river"

Draw a river on the board, 4 - 5 stone steps from below and from above. Divide the participants into 2 teams. They must hit the stones from one bank to the other. To get to the stone, they must correctly complete the task with the flashcard. The first team to get to the other side wins.

You can complicate the game: draw "additional dangers" shark, crocodile.

The game is carried out at the stage of consolidating the studied material or control.

4. "Who is the first?"

Each team is given a sheet with images of words on the topic being studied arranged in a column. There is a recording space next to each of the images. It is necessary to write the names of the clothing items as soon as possible, passing the sheet along the chain to each member of the team. Whoever copes with this task faster and without errors, that team will win.

Result: consolidation of lexical units in various types of speech activity.

5. “Odd one out” There are several rows of cards on the board on different topics. We ask the children to close their eyes, add a card from a different topic to each row, ask the children to open their eyes. We ask what is superfluous.

6. “Pelmanism” You can split the board into two or play in teams or play in pairs with sets of small cards. We put the cards into two groups - words and pictures face down. The student takes one card from the group of pictures and one from the group of words. If they match, the student takes them for himself, if not, turns them face down again. The turn goes to another student or team.

Flashcards with English words help in a short time to gain the necessary vocabulary or phrasal stock. You can take ordinary pieces of paper or stickers, but they quickly wrinkle and wear out, so it is better to buy special thin cardboard or thick paper from office supplies. On one side of the card, write down a word or phrase in English, on the other - transcription and Russian translation.

Another source is books. Here, important words are encountered even more often. Listen carefully to the radio or read a book. When you hear an incomprehensible word or expression, write it out, translate it and add it to a new transcription card for even faster learning English.

If with video, audio or books - a completely dark forest, then take the most used topics in the dictionary or stupid words from the textbook. During the study, I found out for myself that the key to the language is verbs, and only then articles and prepositions (of course, after studying popular nouns). Therefore, I put special emphasis on cards with all faces, tenses and verb conjugations.

The winner is the one who first collects 1, 2 or 3 lines of the card.

School-age children already feel like adults and respectable, therefore the lessons are more collected. When working with schoolchildren, cards can be used as an auxiliary element in the study of vocabulary and grammar.

Phonics is teaching the connections of letters with sounds, that is, a phonetic approach to teaching reading, and teaching sight words is designed to speed up the child's acquaintance with frequently used words, therefore, it allows you to increase the reading speed at the initial stage. The most effective way to teach sight words with children is repetition in the form of play exercises with flash cards.

Sight words are words that are important for a child to remember in order to learn to read and write. Having memorized sight words, the child will be able to recognize the whole word as an image, simply by looking at it - on sight - without having to break the word into separate letters. Anyone who already reads fluently has this skill. Having learned to recognize in this way the most common words of the English language (among which most of them do not lend themselves to phonetic rules), it will allow you to read simple texts faster, without wasting time on "decoding" these words, and, therefore, to achieve understanding faster. Other terms commonly used to describe sight words are service words, instant words (because you should recognize them instantly), snap words (because you should know them in a snap), and high frequency words. You will often hear - Dolch words or Fry words, these are the two most common lists of sight words in the English language.

Sight words are divided into two categories: Frequently Used Words - the words most often found in the English language, among them there are many official words: for example, as, it, do, will. Remembering such words is necessary to speed up reading, and then you do not need to spend time “decoding” these words by letter. For example, if a reader recognizes all the words on the Dolch Sight Words list, he will be able to read with understanding 50% of any newspaper text or 80% of any children's book. Non-Phonetic Words - words that do not lend themselves to phonetic reading rules, for example, buy, talk, come. Memorizing such words with "irregular" spelling helps not only to recognize these words, but also to recognize and read similar words: guy, walk, some. There are several lists of sight words in English: the most used are Dolch list and Fry list. Many words intersect in them. Dolch Sight Words list has been known for longer. It was compiled in the 1930s-40s by Dr. Edward William Dolch, analyzing the most frequently used words in children's books of the time. Fry Sight Words list is a more up-to-date list with 1000 most used words. Dr. Edward Fry compiled this list in the 1950s (and updated it in the 1980s). A reader who knows all 1000 words from the Fry Sight Words list will be able to read 90% of the words of any book, newspaper, website.
