“An unfamiliar environment triggers physiological and hormonal changes in the body that affect our behavior,” explains stress management specialist Tatyana Saykhanova. “Faced with the unusual, our body tries to find something familiar in order to react in a standard way, but is forced to come up with a new program of action.” It is during this period that we do not behave quite adequately: we speak out of place, feel constrained, react too quickly or slowly. According to Lyudmila Gorodnicheva, this is even good. After all, we behave like newcomers - and it is this behavior that colleagues perceive as predictable and safe. And faster we are mistaken for "ours." And after that, it is useful to be active. It is worth asking: "How do I cope with my tasks?" - at the boss. And colleagues say: "If you don't mind, I would suggest a couple of ideas - I just have the right experience." “It is this technique that will allow you to enter a strange monastery with your own charter,” explains Elena Bocharova. "Especially if we really see that we can improve the manufacturing process." This way of communication will help not only to join the team, but also to gain credibility.

Selfless interest

For the first few days, any newbie is in the spotlight. Anything new inevitably piques people's interest, and that's okay. It is important that this interest is neutral so that you can benefit from the situation. We are becoming a news item. They will talk about us, look at us as if through a magnifying glass. Colleagues will be interested in absolutely everything: how we look, what car we drive, what clothes we wear, how we talk and what kind of model our mobile phone has. Moreover, the higher the position, the stronger the curiosity. And there won't be a second chance to make a first impression. Therefore, at first, it is especially important to come on time, look good, be friendly. “The people around them remember not what we said or did, but the emotion with which we associate with them,” explains Elena Bocharova. "And all of the above recommendations are aimed precisely at creating a positive association."

Another important detail that will help you get through the adaptation period easier is attention to your feelings. After all, the understanding that in the new place everything is wrong and everything is wrong and now you need to get used to everything again is seriously depressing. “At this moment, it is important to be especially attentive to yourself and not project your state onto your colleagues,” warns Elena Bocharova. Indeed, we feel uncomfortable not because our colleagues or management are bad, but because we ourselves are sad about the past. You can allow yourself a little nostalgia, because by this moment those around us will already accept us as “their own” - a person who has every right to sometimes be in a bad mood.
