How to dry the basement and the cellar from damp

Any residential premises requires the maintenance of the optimal level of humidity. Particular attention must be paid to control over humidity in the basement and garage cellars. For this, they are equipped with good ventilation and waterproofing. But what if the water in the cellar appeared? In this case, the garage owners need to immediately take measures to dry the cellar. Why moisture accumulates in the cellar

The main cause of high humidity in the garage cellar is bad waterproofing or its complete absence. Due to the errors allowed at the stage of construction of the garage with the cellar, the moisture is gradually beginning to accumulate in the room, and condensate appears on the walls. As a result of a big humidity - an ugly rack appears on the walls (fungus). Such a phenomenon is unacceptable for cellars in which food is stored, so it is important to spend a high-quality drying of the room in a timely manner.

Methods of drying cellar in the garage

The constant accumulation of moisture in the cellar is negatively reflected in the state of the entire design. For drying cellar in the garage, you can use several methods. The most effective of them are candles and a roaster (metal oven, photo 1).

Important! Before proceeding to drying the cellar, you need to spend a good revision in it, remove the shelves, make interfering equipment and supplies upstairs. When the whole garbage is removed from it, the room is dried by outer air to bring extra moisture, and then choose the method to normalize the humidity level.

There are two most famous ways to combat excessive moisture in the basement of the garage.

Attention! If there is a lot of water in the basement, then before starting drying it is necessary to pump out the pump, or deny it manually. It is important to determine what is the source of water in the cellar. It is possible to blame substantial isolation. But maybe such that the room is built next to the spring. In this case, it is necessary to take water to the side with the help of a pump and equip good waterproofing in the cellar.

Arrangement of waterproofing in the cellar cheese

In order for the drying of the basement in the garage, it is necessary to take care of the arrangement of external and internal isolation. You can create it with your own hands, not attracting specialists. You can purchase materials for external and internal drainage in a construction store.

Arrangement external drainage (Scheme 3) In the cellar involves the creation of a system for removing extra moisture beyond the premises. It is best to exterior on the construction stage of the garage, but it is possible to perform waterproofing in an already finished room if the level of moisture is greatly increased. The principle of creating external waterproofing is as follows:

  • On the external perimeter of the structure rushes a trench (it must be 50 cm below than the floor level in the cellar);
  • The drains in the form of plastic pipes are installed along the entire length of the trench (for them it is necessary to prepare wells in advance to the first layer of sand). The upper part of the drainage is needed to cover with a metal grid (this will prevent contamination of the entire system);
  • On the bottom of the trench, geotextile waterproofing material is placed (it should go on the walls);
  • The finished channel of drainage falls asleep by rubble to a height of 40 cm. The layer of rubble must be greater than the floor line in the cellar;
  • The mound is well trambed.


Scheme 3.

Inner drainage (Scheme 4) will allow you to dry the cellar much faster. For its arrangement, such materials are needed: geotextile waterproofing, crushed stone and gravel, drainage tubes, drainage pump, PVC container, sand. On the perimeter of the room lay pipes intended for collecting excess water. The diameter of these pipes can be different, but it is best to choose the designs with a diameter of 110 mm. The arrangement of the inner drainage system in the basement of the garage is better to do during the construction phase. Otherwise, you have to dismantle the floor in order to pave all the design elements of the system.

Internal drainage in the garage cellar is paved in accordance with such a scheme:

  • Tear a trench in a depth of about 50 cm throughout the perimeter of the room;
  • The bottom is tightly, then a geosptic is placed on it (this material perfectly absorbs moisture, thereby performing the function of waterproofing);
  • A layer of fine-flow material (gravel, rubble) is stacked in the trench; 20 cm thick;
  • Over the embankment stacked pipes, withstanding the angle of inclination in 3 mm;
  • On top of the paved pipes, the gravel layer is again poured, but already the average fraction. The material is well trambed and a layer of geotextile is located on it;
  • The final action in this case will be a belling of the trench with sand and soil (taken out when Copf), careful rambling.


Scheme 4.

There is another method of effective drying of the cellar in the basement - injection defense (Scheme 5). This method refers to the most expensive, but at the same time it is as efficient as possible. When using this method, waterproofing in the cellar is equipped using injections. Naturally, specialized equipment will be needed to perform such work. The injecting drying method is recommended for garages built from concrete, brick and foam blocks. Technology conducting drying injecting looks like this:

  • All over the perimeter of the raw basement, holes with a diameter of 1.5 to 4 mm are dried. There should be 20-80 cm between adjacent holes. In each case, the parameter will be different and depend on the level of moisture, the thickness of the walls and characteristics of the soil;
  • Special elements are inserted into the prepared holes through which the pump is injected with liquid waterproofing or polymers;
  • The advantages of such waterproofing are obvious. There is no need to disassemble the plating from the walls, breakdown building structures. In addition, work on the arrangement of waterproofing in this way can be carried out with any weather, at any time of the year.
