Website Version:- Updated: January 24, 2018

Installing mods in games can be a daunting task. But in World of Tanks, the developers initially added support for custom modifications, so in the game folder, there is a special folder for mods called res_mods , which is responsible for modifications.

Theory of how mods work

Let's look at how all this works in general in Wot. First, the game loads all resources from the res folder, which contains game files such as sound, textures, models, scripts, and more. It is in World of Tanks that all this is packed into archives in order for the game to load a little faster. In fact, we can take the file we need from there (for example, the skin of a tank) and change it. Then we put it back, replacing the existing file. And everything will work. But this method is inconvenient, firstly, we would have to save the original files in case nothing works, and secondly, when there are a lot of mods, we will not be able to delete all this, because we need to remember what and where we threw it.

That's what the res_mods folder exists for, after the game has loaded files from the res folder, it loads files from res_mods , and if there is a file that has already been loaded from the res folder, then the game will take the last option, that is, our modified one from the res_mods folder . This is how everything is done in World of Tanks in such a convenient way.

How to install mods in World of Tanks?

At the moment, there are two folders for modifications in World of Tanks. The first is mods , it appeared recently and is needed for mods that are packaged and have the .wotmods format. The second folder was almost from the very beginning, this is res_mods , it is needed for unpacked mods.

Both of these folders contain more folders inside them, with the number of the current version of the game, now it is 1.6.0.0, and the folders of older versions can simply be deleted so that they do not interfere.

On our site, in each mod, we write how to install it. But often we post modifications already along with the necessary folders, and therefore, all that is needed is to open the downloaded archive and copy (or unpack or transfer the contents with the mouse, this is the same thing) to the folder where you have World of Tanks installed.

Note: If you didn't change anything during the installation of the game, then the tanks are installed in C:\\Games\World_of_Tanks . Actually this is the folder with the game.

Always read the description for the mod, we ALWAYS write exactly how to install this or that mod. Below is a list of possible settings.

Options for installing modifications

  • Unpack the archive into the World of Tanks folder - Everything is simple here, open the downloaded archive, select everything that is there with the mouse and transfer it to the folder with the installed game.
  • Copy the mods (or res_mods) folder to the World of Tanks folder - Everything is the same as in the previous version, but when it is written that way, then there may be more folders in the archive, for example with fonts or additional mod options, so if you copy everything at once , then nothing will work.
  • Unpack the archive into the folder World of Tanks\mods\1.6.0.0 (or World of Tanks\res_mods\1.6.0.0) - Almost the same as before, but now having entered the game folder, you need to go further into mods (or res_mods) , and then to 1.6.0.0 and copy the contents of the downloaded archive there.
  • Install fonts - It's simple, there is a folder called "font" in the archive, go into it, then double-click on each file, and after the font has opened, click "install". Everything. You don't need to copy anything.
  • Run installer (or Run program) - In this case, these are usually either programs or modpacks with installers. There is no need to copy anything, just double-click and that's it.

Uninstalling World of Tanks mods

To remove a specific mod, you need to know what files were installed, and simply remove them. And to remove ALL mods from tanks, you just need to clear the mods/1.6.0.0 and res_mods/1.6.0.0 folders. But in no case do not delete the 1.6.0.0 folders themselves, otherwise the game simply will not start.

Game modifications help World of Tanks players feel more comfortable in battle, find out their achievements right in battle, and also allow you to find out information about the enemy, his skill, and much more.

Where to install mods for World of Tanks

In order to use various game modifications that will definitely simplify some gameplay features and make the game more convenient, you must first install them in your game client.

Game modifications can be installed using special collections - the so-called "modpacks", which contain a large number of various modifications (from sights to player statistics). Also install individual mods with your own hands, without the help of these assemblies.

Installing individual mods mostly causes difficulties for players.

To install any game modification, you need to go to the folder with the game client, most often it is located at the following location D: / World of Tanks /. You need to find the /res_mods folder in it - it was created automatically so that players can install the necessary modifications on their own. Then you need to create a folder with the name of the current game patch (current version), for example, it will be /0. 9.13.

The final installation path will look like this: D /World of Tanks/res_mods/0. 9.13.

Installing most mods will be successful if you install in this way. However, some mods will require the creation of other folders, for example, some scopes will require the creation of additional folders in the /0 folder. 9.13.

To set the sight, you must create the /gui folder, then create the /scaleform folder in it. The final path should look like this:

D /World of Tanks/res_mods/0. 9.13.0/gui/scaleform

How to install the World of Tanks sound mod

A sound mod is a modification with which the player can change the existing sounds in the game. For example, completely change the voice acting of the crew, individual phrases when hit, and so on. Also, sound mods can add new voice acting elements, such as a crit bell (critical damage) of a module or an injured crew member.

Installation of such modifications is quite simple. To install sound mods, you must first download them from the site, the folder will often be called /audio. Then you need to go to the folder with the game client, and there we will also notice the same folder.

Then you should copy all the files from the downloaded /audio folder and paste it into the /audio folder of the game. It is necessary to copy with the replacement of current files, otherwise the mods will not work.

Before installing sound modifications, be sure to close the game client. In addition, you can not install a large number of sound mods, because they can lead to conflicts in the game, in some cases the game may not even start or be thrown out at startup. This applies not only to sound mods, but to everyone else.

What mods to install in World of Tanks

The most necessary for the players are the following game modifications:

Sights (the basic sight does not provide the required amount of information and can be replaced, for example, with a sight from Jove, which shows the reload time, zoom, the amount of tank durability, the presence of shells in the drum, and so on);

Graphic (this also includes "tank penetration skins" - a useful mod that shows vulnerabilities in tank armor, also mods like "white corpses" - helps to target enemies behind corpses, as well as "bright railway platforms", "white downed caterpillars”, “increasing the visibility range”);

Sound mods (new voice acting, lighting lamp voice acting, crit bell and many others);

Hangar modifications (a mod that completely changes the appearance of the player's hangar);

Player statistics mod, or the so-called "reindeer gauge" (allows you to find out information about the player - his percentage of wins, efficiency, as well as the number of fights);

These are the main mods, but there are many others that will improve your level of tank play.

Install mod pack on World of Tanks

Installing a mod pack is much easier than installing individual mods with your own hands. The developers of the mod pack have already put all the mods into one “heap”, which can be installed like a regular program / game, using the usual installer. All the player needs is just to choose the necessary ones from all the mods present.

On the Internet there are a large number of various mod packs from different developers. The most popular is the "Jov's Mod Pack", which contains a huge number of mods from many developers. In addition to "mods from Jova", you can also install mods from: Desertod, Maracasi or Amway921. Their number is large, so that everyone will find a selection to their taste and color.

World Of Tanks is a popular multiplayer game in the historical setting of World War II. The concept of this project is based on tank battles between players, using authentic vehicles that were in service with European and American countries in the middle of the 20th century.

WoT is distinguished by the variety of game content, but there is hardly a person who would not like to get at their disposal even more equipment from the Second World War. If you are actively involved in tank battles, you should be interested in learning how to install mods on World of Tanks.

Installation

Installing a modification in WoT is quite simple: if you installed mods on SLRR or any other game, then you already have a rough idea of the sequence of actions.

Each archive with a modification should contain a file that specifies the features of installing the add-on. Be sure to read it so as not to make a mistake when installing the mod.

All modifications must be added to the WoT root directory, which opens along the path "World_of_Tanks → res_mods → game version".
However, for some types of modifications it is necessary to create additional directories.

Adding "skin"

Follow the path "World_of_Tanks → res_mods → game version" and create a folder "vehicles". Inside this directory, you need to create another folder that will have the name of the country of the tank: for example, if the tank is French, then the directory will be called "french"; German - "german", etc.

Inside the "german" directory is created with the mod, which should be named the same as the mod itself. Then all files with *.dds extension are copied to the destination directory. Mods for Mafia 2 are installed in a similar way, so it will not be difficult to figure it out.

Examples of adding mods for version 9.6

If the specified directories do not exist, you need to create them yourself:

  • Hangars - C:\Games→World_of_Tanks→res_mods→0.9.6→content→Interface→shells→Hangar
  • Caterpillars - C:\ Games→World_of_Tanks→res_mods→0.9.6→vehicles→Nation→Tracks
  • Minimap - C:\ Games→World_of_Tanks→res_mods→0.9.6→gui→flash
  • Icons - C:\ Games→World_of_Tanks→res_mods→0.9.6→gui→maps→icons→vehicle

Do not copy the files from the downloaded modification to the root directory of the game with the replacement. This may result in the loss of important data.

Possible problems

After the release of version 0.9.0, the old "skins" stopped working. This is due to the transition to the use of HD-models. In order for the skins to start functioning again, you need to add the value "AM" to the file name. For example, there was a file “T-44.dds”, and it will become “T-44_AM.dds”. However, not all models can be fixed in this way, so it’s easier to immediately download new “skins”.
Players are banned from the server for using some mods, so be extremely careful and do not break the rules. Cheaters are not loved anywhere, and WoT in this sense is quite cruel to users who do not respect the rules.

Remember about compatibility: after the release of the next patch, old mods sometimes stop functioning and cause bugs in the game. Always check the version of the client and the modification being downloaded so as not to create problems for yourself in the game (jumps, texture failures, etc.).

If you want to return the game to its original state, uninstall Jov's mods and other add-ons that you previously installed.

Instructions for installing mods for WoT.

All mods serve one purpose - to change the World of Tanks client. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small mod that changes light bulbs, or a large one that affects not only the interface, but also the functionality of the game, they have the same principle of operation - overwriting the standard functions of the game.

Always read the installation instructions on the mod's download page, or in the " installation.txt" or " readme.txt"in the archive with the mod.

Procedure for installing mods

  1. Download any from our site.
  2. If it's executable .exe file with automatic installation (for example), then you don’t have to read further - just follow the instructions in the installer itself after running it. Most likely, he will ask you to specify the installation location of the game and then he will do everything himself.
  3. If you downloaded the archive, and there are a lot of folders and files inside:
    1. Files with extension .wotmod must be placed in a folder World_of_Tanks/mods/[game_version].
    2. Unpack the rest of the files and folders in World_of_Tanks/res_mods/[game_version].

[game_version]- a folder whose name is indicated simply by numbers, for example:

  • mods/1.4.1.1
  • res_mods/1.4.1.1

If there are no such folders, create them manually.

In some cases, mod creators already include the necessary top-level folders in the archive and the mod may start with the folder mods or from the version of the game, for example 1.5.0 or in the archive, everything can lie in a heap. In this case, you need to read the instructions (if any), see what is in front of you in the archive and act according to the situation. No need to blindly unpack each mod into the root of the game - first check what's inside.

A few more important facts about the installation:

  • Download and install only mods that are relevant for the current version of the game - outdated mods will not work at best, and at worst you will not be able to run the game with them.
  • There are mods that modify game files rather than redefine their functionality. This is usually explicitly stated in the description. It is best to make a backup copy of the game before installing or be prepared for the fact that World of Tanks will need to be reinstalled.
  • Always check downloaded mods with antivirus! Although we place fashions from trusted sources in our catalog, extra caution never hurts.

World of Tanks is a popular multiplayer tank battle game. Released in 2010, the game has captured many hearts around the world with its believable mechanics. The game regularly releases new additions and updates. But fans of the game also help with improvement with the help of their amateur mods.

However, installing mods in WoT is not an easy task. Not every person will figure out where to write certain files. How to install mods in World of Tanks will be discussed later.

How to install mods on WoT

The difficulty lies in the fact that each type of mod has its own installation instructions. Sometimes, you even have to manipulate the game files in order for the mods to work correctly.

WoT mods are conditionally divided into:

  • Voice acting.
  • Crew icons.
  • Tank icon.
  • Sights.
  • Loading screens.
  • "Skins" for tanks.

All mods are always placed in the "res_mods" folder, which is located in the root folder of the game. Moreover, in this folder there are several more folders with versions of the game. You need to install mod files in the folder of the version you are using.

Almost always, the downloaded mod files are installed automatically using the installer program, but if there is no such program, then you will have to install the mods manually. For this, you will need this instruction with a consideration of the main mods.

How to install voice mod on WoT

In order for the voice acting mod to work correctly, it is necessary to replace the standard voice acting files. For this:

  1. We transfer the folder with the original voice acting from the address "World_of_Tanks\res\audio" to the folder "World_of_Tanks\res_mods\game version\audio".
  2. After that, we replace the voice files with mod files.

Make sure that there are no standard voice files left at the old address. Otherwise, the mod will not work.

How to set crew icons

Copy the crew icon mod files to World_of_Tanks\res_mods\game version\gui\maps\icons\tankmen\icons.

If there are no such folders, then create them.

How to install tank icons

Tank icons are always installed in the path "res_mods\0.8.5\gui\maps\icons\vehicle\contour". After that, the mod should work.

How to install another scope

Crosshair files have the .swf extension. This means that the files are flash animations. Therefore, you need to install them in the "flash" folder.

How to install loading screens

The files of this mod should be placed at the address "World_of_Tanks\res_mods\game version\gui\maps\icons\map\screen". New loading screens will brighten up the anticipation before the battle.

How to install the "skin" for the tank

"Skin" is needed to give a special look to your tank. If you want to see a French tank on the screen, then install the appropriate "skin". However, only you can see the new view.

To install the mod, you need to perform a number of difficult steps:

  1. Create the "vehicles" folder along the path "World_of_Tanks\res_mods\game version\".
  2. Inside the new folder, you need to create another folder with the name of the country that owns the “skin” of the tank from the mod. For example, for the French "skin" folder "french" is created.
  3. Then, inside the folder with the name of the country, a folder with the name of the tank is created. Usually this folder is present in the mod files and you just need to copy it.
  4. We go into the game and check.

For this mod, you need to know which tank belongs to which country.
