There is always a lot to do in the garden. From time to time you have to endure something heavy, and this is not always good for your health. It is especially difficult for those who are not used to serious physical activity. To get pleasure from being at the dacha, and not pain in the spine, you need not to carry weights in your hands, but to transport them on a trolley. We assemble a box from planed boards - the basis of the product. We choose the sizes based on our own physical fitness and the needs of the farm. In our example, the box is 46 cm wide and 56 cm long.

The box and wheel will be mounted on a mounting frame - the main supporting part of the wheelbarrow. For its construction, we need two bars 3-5 cm thick and 120 cm long each. We will use the same bars as handles for the wheelbarrow. It is convenient to hold on to their ends in order to move loads across the territory of the site.

We put the bars on the table, connecting the front ends with each other. We move the opposite ends of the bars apart to the distance of the width of our own shoulders. On the connected ends, place a bar of a smaller diameter on top. He is shown in a different color in the photo. It needs to be outlined with a pencil, leaving parallel lines on the bars of the frame. So we mark the place where the wheel will subsequently be mounted to the bars. Along the lines drawn at the bars, we make cuts with a hacksaw or a circular saw as shown in the photo.

The wheel will also be made of wood

We will also make a wheel with a diameter of 28 cm from wood. We take six well-cut planks with dimensions of 30x15x2 cm. We glue them into a square as shown in the figure using PVA glue. We hold it under pressure for about a day: until the glue is completely dry. Mark a circle on the surface of the square. Additionally, we fasten the future wheel with self-tapping screws for wood. We drill out the wheel, focusing on the outer part of the marking. We process the rough surface of the rim with a rasp.

If you are making a wheelbarrow for gardening, then it is better to buy a ready-made wheel (metal with a rubber tire). And if you are making a decorative wheelbarrow, then nothing will do better than a tree.

We mount the frame and wheel

We return to the mounting frame. We connect two bars together with a spacer. It must be installed so that the wheel fits between the front ends of the bars (those that are cut from the inside). With a wheel width of 6 cm, the distance between the ends of the bars should be 9 cm. Based on these considerations, we determine the size of the spacer, saw down its ends and attach it to the bars with self-tapping screws.

To mount the wheel, we need a metal threaded rod 150-200 mm long, 4 nuts and 4 washers. All with a diameter of 12-14 mm. At the ends of the bars we drill holes for this stud. Exactly in the middle of our wooden wheel we drill a hole that slightly exceeds the diameter of the stud.

Likewise, the body in a metal wheelbarrow is welded to its mounting frame. The basic methods of work are the same and do not depend on the material used.

We push one end of the hairpin into the hole on one of the bars. We install a washer on the stud, then a nut, then a wheel, then another nut and a washer. We pass the hairpin through the second beam. We fix the wheel from the outside of the bars with washers and nuts. The hairpin must be firmly fixed on the bars, so we tighten the fastening with two wrenches.

It remains to assemble the finished product

Place the mounting frame with the wheel on the box turned upside down so that the wheel does not touch the box. Mark the position of the frame on the box with a pencil. We make two wedges along the entire length of the box, 5 cm thick and 10 cm wide. We put them on pencil lines and attach them to the box surface with self-tapping screws from the bottom of the product. We also attach a frame with a wheel to these wedges with self-tapping screws.

It remains to install a spacer, which rigidly holds the racks together. The wheelbarrow is ready, you can douse it with linseed oil and use it in work

We make braces so that the wheelbarrow is conveniently placed during loading and unloading operations. We select their length so that when installed on them, the box is parallel to the ground. A rigid connection of the uprights is provided by a spacer bar, attached as shown in the photo. It remains to cover the finished product with linseed oil so that the wheelbarrow will serve you faithfully for many years.

Option # 2 - a wheelbarrow made of metal or a barrel

A versatile wheelbarrow that can be used for both harvesting and construction work needs to be sturdy. For transportation of cement, sand or soil, it is better to use a metal product. It is also easy to make such a wheelbarrow on your own, but you will need the skill of working with welding equipment.

An excellent option would be a trolley welded from a sheet of metal 2 mm thick. Initially, the body is assembled from the sheet, after which the chassis and handles are welded to it. Depending on the expected load on the finished product, wheels from a motorcycle, moped and even a bicycle can be used for it.

You can make the product cheaper if you make its box, for example, from an old iron barrel. It is better to start work with the manufacture of the supporting structure in the form of the letter "A". On the base obtained earlier, we lay plywood or plank flooring, put on it a box, seat or whatever is needed, depending on the goals. In order to fix the flooring on the frame, you will need to drill holes in the frame, and you can fix it with nuts and bolts. This completes the bike cart. How to make a decorative model?

It should be said that a cart or wheelbarrow can be not only a garden or construction one. She can still perform a decorative function. After that, we drill holes from the bottom of the frame, into which the axis will then be inserted. In the role of it, a pipe or threaded rod will be used. The axle, which will protrude from the frame on both sides, must be equal to double the wheel width. The axle in the frame is fixed very tightly using self-tapping screws or bolts, which must be tightened with nuts. After that, it is necessary to put the wheels on the axle and secure them with cotter pins. They can be purchased, or they can be removed from some unnecessary bike. If there are none, then you can form the wheel yourself from a piece of thick plywood. In order for it to serve as long as possible, it is necessary:

• first, plywood should be impregnated with linseed oil or an antiseptic solution;
• the wheel should be hit with a metal strip, put a tire on it and wrap it in thick rubber;
• bearings should be installed in the holes for landing the wheels;
• Lubricate wheels and axle with grease.

The last stage remains - to form the body. It is also usually made from plywood. First, you need to cut out the bottom and firmly fix the part to the frame. If we talk about the sides, then different options are possible. They are mounted motionlessly in relation to the bottom of the box or with the help of hinges, after which they can be folded. Fastening should be done as follows:

• one side should be attached directly to the bottom;
• the second, which is located opposite, is attached through an adapter in the form of a bar, its thickness will be equal to the side thickness;
• the end board must be fastened through the transition bar, which must have a double thickness, that is, the trolley in the folded state will be simply flat;
• to prevent the sides from falling when in working position, hooks or latches should be installed.

The one-wheel barrow is distinguished by its low weight (up to 7-9 kg) and high maneuverability. A narrow path is enough to move it. It will pass between the beds without any problems, without catching the planted plants. Another advantage of a wheelbarrow with one wheel is the ease of unloading. It is enough to slightly tilt or raise its handles to free the structure from the transported contents.

Unicycle devices are unstable. Keeping them evenly loaded is difficult. A person needs to make considerable physical efforts to move such structures.

Products with 2–4 wheels are already trolleys. They are suitable for both gardening and construction work. Multi-wheeled cars are stable. They do not tip over during transport. With their help, loads of large mass are transported.

One-wheel design - the easiest to manufacture

A wheelbarrow with one wheel made of wood is suitable for moving small loads. It's easy to build. It is necessary to make an elementary mounting frame and connect a wooden wheel and a platform (body) to it. A drawing of such a structure is shown below.

A wheel for a homemade wheelbarrow is taken from a motorcycle or bicycle. The body in which the goods will be transported is made of bars. Their length is 1.1–1.2 m. They are fixed to the mounting frame with self-tapping screws. If the bearing capacity of the bars is not enough (massive objects will move on the wheelbarrow), they can be replaced with metal sheets. Products with a thickness of 2 mm are suitable.

Making the platform out of metal complicates the assembly process for a one-wheeled car. We have to cut the steel using special equipment, bend it and weld it. These problems can be easily avoided by using an old barrel instead of metal sheets to create the body. It is enough to cut it in half and install it on the frame.

A wheelbarrow made of metal with one and two wheels - how to make?

A metal one-wheel wheelbarrow has an increased carrying capacity (compared to a wooden one) and a long service life. Its recommended sizes are as follows:

• height - 0.5 m;
• length - 1 m;
• width - 0.6 m.

A device with such parameters is characterized by good maneuverability and high stability. For its manufacture, you will need a metal corner 2.5x2.5 cm, sheet steel 1.5-2 mm thick, a profile pipe, a welding unit, a grinder, wheels with bearings.

Do-it-yourself metal garden wheelbarrow is made according to an understandable algorithm. A simple sketch of the fixture is drawn. The dimensions of the structure must be affixed on it. The steel sheet is cut with a grinder. A body (box for goods) is made of it. Racks are made from the corners, and a handle is made from a small-section pipe. All parts are connected into one whole. A wheel is attached to the finished structure.

It is not difficult to make a wheelbarrow with two wheels from a profile pipe (picture below). Such a cart in the CIS is called kravchuchka. It owes its name to L. Kravchuk, who was the president of Ukraine in the early 1990s.

The kravchuchka is made according to the following scheme. Two pieces are cut from the profile pipe. Their dimensions are taken equal to the width of the trolley base. To this indicator, add a few centimeters required for mounting wheels from a motorcycle or moped.

Pieces of pipe are welded with metal bridges 15–20 cm long. The result is a rectangular structure. Sections of a round pipe are welded onto its narrow edges. They should be installed in the middle. Final work - wheel connection. Kravchuchka is ready to use. With it, you can even go to the wholesale market, purchasing goods for future use.

Two-wheeled wooden cart - if there is no welding machine at hand

A wheelbarrow with two wheels is made of wood when the craftsman does not have a welder and plans to use the lifting device exclusively for gardening work. Wood is easy to process. Therefore, there are no problems with assembling the trolley, especially when there are drawings of the future design.

For the manufacture of the frame of a wooden cart, boards with dimensions of 7x7 cm are used. The use of products with a smaller section is undesirable, since they will not provide the device with the required strength. The boards are fastened with self-tapping screws. They are driven into the corners of the frame. If necessary, the resulting frame is additionally reinforced with 2–4 wooden lintels.

Small bars are screwed to the base of the frame. They are required for mounting the bearings. The wheelbase is installed on the prepared places. The handle for the wheelbarrow is recommended to be made of metal. As such, it is allowed to use a handlebar from a bicycle that has not been used for a long time.

The trolley body is equipped with bumpers on the sides. They will hold the transported goods. The height of the sides depends on the size of the items you plan to transport.

If the wheelbarrow is planned to be used to transport heavy loads, building materials, bulky items, it should be made with four wheels. This design is made of metal elements. To assemble it, the performer must have a welding machine and a set of locksmith tools.

The trolley frame is made of metal pipes and pieces. They are welded together into one platform. The handle and wheels are welded to the frame assembled in this way. The latest experts recommend equipping with pneumatic tires, which increase the carrying capacity of the trolley and simplify the process of its movement. It is allowed to weld on wheels:

• In pairs. In this case, two wheels are mounted on one axle. The resulting structure is attached to the platform.
• One by one. Each wheel is individually welded to the frame.

A container is installed on the platform. It is loaded with goods intended for transportation. Used products are used as containers. For these purposes, use an old or new trough, a wooden box or a pallet.

It is advisable to fix the device for loading and transporting materials on the platform. The operation is performed by welding or bolting. The first option is suitable for wheelbarrows that are not planned to be disassembled. The bolt connection allows one container for transporting goods to be changed to another as needed.
