Variety Received the RHS AGM (Award of Garden Merit) in 2009.

It is a deciduous shrub with a spreading, rounded or cushion-shaped crown. It reaches 0.8-1 m in height and width. The growth rate is average, the annual growth is up to 10 cm. Shoots are numerous, red-brown, covered with short and elastic spines. The bark is gray-brown.

Leaves graceful, small, obovate, brown, red or red-crimson, when blooming has the most intense color. In autumn, they acquire orange-red tones.

Blooms in May. Flowers are numerous, single or collected in bunches of 2-5, reddish outside and yellow inside, fragrant.

Fruiting profusely, fruits are oblong, coral red, shiny, not edible. They ripen in September-October and remain on the branches for a long time.

Frost resistance zone: 5a - 8b (-26 ° C).

Location: photophilous, but can tolerate light partial shade. Heat-resistant, winter-hardy, drought- and wind-resistant, relatively smoke-resistant. Does not tolerate prolonged moisture. It is not picky about the soil, but loves fertile, moderately moist, acidic or slightly alkaline (pH = 4.5 - 7). It tolerates urban conditions well, is hardy.

Landing: planting is best done in spring or autumn. If the acidity is higher than pH 7, it is recommended to calcify the soil. Planting mixture: peat, turf soil, humus in a ratio of 1: 1: 1, 400 g of slaked lime (at PH> 7) and 200 g of wood ash. Planting pit dimensions: 40x40 cm. For a single planting, the distance between plants should be 1.5-2 m. To create a hedge, a trench is prepared and bushes are placed at the rate of 2 bushes per 1 running meter.

Care: care consists in loosening the near-trunk circles, but shallowly, mulching. It is recommended to water at least once a week, 2-3 buckets per plant. In the spring, one year after planting, nitrogen-containing fertilizers can be applied. In the future, nitrogen fertilization is carried out no earlier than 3-4 years later. In the first 2-3 years, it needs to be covered with spruce branches.

Cropping: tolerates a haircut well.

Reproduction: cuttings, dividing the bush, root suckers.

Diseases: bacterial cancer, powdery mildew, leaves, leaf spot, powdery mildew. Resistant to rust fungus.

Pests: barberry aphid, barberry sawfly, barberry moth, leaf gnawing.

Using: used as an ordinary, in group plantings, in hedges, compositions.
