What flowers to make a flower bed in the country. Do-it-yourself flower bed in the country (57 photos): plants for decorating a composition

All about grapes

It is difficult to imagine a dacha without flowers - on any site there will always be at least a few flowering bushes. And for real flower-lovers of odes, the dacha from afar attracts attention with an abundance of colorful flower beds and flower beds, arches of roses and clematis. Everyone can make flower beds in the country with their own hands, and the most ordinary materials will do for this.

Flower beds differ in shape, size, flowering time, compositional combinations. Most often, the following types of flower beds are used in the country:

It should be borne in mind that vertical, suspended and multi-level compositions require not only constant maintenance, but also high costs. In addition, the very process of creating such a flower garden is very laborious. The easiest way is to lay an irregular or mono-flower, and the correct arrangement and selection of plants will make it spectacular and attractive.

To create original flower beds, many craftsmen adapt any materials at hand. These can be old tree stumps, fallen tree trunks, car ramps, unnecessary plastic barrels, wooden crates, and even real cars that have fallen into disrepair. Curbs made of natural stone, glass bottles, wicker vines look very beautiful.

In order for the composition to always look bright and fresh, and at the same time be in harmony with the surrounding landscape, you need to carefully select not only the shape of the flower garden and the materials for its bookmark, but also the plants themselves. Moisture-loving flowers should not be placed in small containers, especially suspended ones, where the soil dries out much faster. For vertical and arched structures, you need to select climbing vines with abundant flowering and a large number of leaves. In multi-level flower beds, you cannot plant tall, dense plants in the foreground, otherwise they will cover everything else.

In the process of work you will need:

  • shovel;
  • crushed stone;
  • stones for the border;
  • cement mortar;
  • black soil.

Step 1. Choosing a location

The choice of a place for a flower garden is the most crucial stage. A lot depends on what kind of plants will be planted there: some flowers like open, well-lit areas, others prefer shade, and others need a barrier from drafts and wind. Inappropriate conditions reduce the decorative effect of flowers and the flower bed loses its attractiveness.

Step 2. Markup

When the place is chosen, markings are made in the desired shape. It can be a circle, oval, square or rectangle, any other geometric shape. The perimeter of the flower garden is marked with a string stretched on pegs. If the soil on the site is soft, not overgrown with grass, you can simply outline the contours with a sharp twig.

Step 3. Preparing the pit

Inside the perimeter, a layer of earth is chosen with a shovel to a depth of 20-30 cm. For drainage, the bottom is laid out with crushed stone, broken brick or stone, well leveled and tamped. If the groundwater is too high on the site, before laying the drainage, the bottom is lined with a film or roofing material, the edges of which are brought out and temporarily strengthened with stones.

Step 4. Border decoration

Now you need to decorate the walls of the flower garden: with the help of cement mortar, a border of stones is laid along the perimeter of the pit. If the site is completely overgrown with grass, a shallow trench 15 cm wide is dug around the pit and filled with fine gravel or gravel.

Step 5. Planting plants

When the solution hardens, the flower garden is filled with fertile soil and left for 1-2 weeks. During this time, the soil will compact a little and settle, so you will have to add more black soil. Then it remains only to plant flowers and level the soil.

The curb can be made not only from stones or bricks; The edging from bottles dug down with the neck, from short wooden rods, from neatly cut planks looks great. If a composition is created from several flower beds at once, the borders should be the same.

If there are old dead trees on the site, they will be an excellent material for small picturesque flower beds. You can use not only trunks, but also stumps, as well as round cuts of thick branches. So, the tree is cut down, leaving a stump from 30 to 70 cm high. On one side, a through hole is drilled through which excess moisture will drain.

The walls of the stump must remain thick enough, otherwise the moisture will cause the tree to collapse faster. Another important point: if the cause of the death of the tree was a disease, and not old age or the influence of external factors, it cannot be used for a flower garden. The disease can spread to flowers, and all efforts will be in vain. In any case, treating the stump with protective equipment will not be superfluous.

The finished stump is filled with fertile soil and left for ten days. When the soil shrinks, add more, slightly compact and level. After that, you can start planting plants. When choosing flowers, you should take into account the diameter and height of the stump: in small ones, it is enough to plant a couple of tulip or daffodil bulbs and plant some small perennial, but a whole flower arrangement will fit on large diameter stumps. In stumps from 0.5 m high, ampelous flowers or undersized vines look great.

Tree trunks are also easy to adapt to decorate a summer cottage. The length and diameter of the barrel do not really matter.

So, the process of making a flower garden from a log has the following order:

  • the tree is cut on both sides, the branches are sawn off;
  • remove the bark if necessary;
  • departing from the edge 15-20 cm on the trunk make a cross-cut with a hacksaw;
  • from the other end, perform the same actions;
  • the wood between the cuts is knocked out to make a container in the form of a trough;
  • the bottom is drilled in 2-3 places, the inner walls are treated with an antiseptic;
  • fill the inside of the log with soil and compact it a little.

After a few days, the soil must be filled up, and after that flowers can be planted.

The flower garden, created from the cuts of old acacia, looks original. To do this, the tree trunk is cut into several pieces 20 cm thick. The bark must be left, it gives the composition a natural look. The middle is knocked out of the cuts, leaving a thin bottom. If it did not work out to do this carefully, and the bottom turned out to be punched, a piece of plywood or a wide board should be stuffed from below.

A flower garden is formed: three cuts are laid out on a flat rammed area so that they touch each other closely. Fill them with fertile soil and sprinkle with large wood shavings or chips. Another cut is placed on top, placing it exactly in the center of the composition. The upper saw cut is also filled with soil and the plants are planted. It is important to choose flowers correctly here. So that they combine with each other and do not cover the walls of the flower garden.

Overturned barrel flower garden

Such original flower beds are a good solution for hilly areas. Almost any elongated container is suitable for creating a composition. It can be a plastic and wooden barrel, an aluminum can, buckets of different sizes. Moreover, the container is suitable even with damage, because only one side remains visible.

Choose a suitable elevation and slightly excavate its top. Put the barrel or bucket on its side and add it well so that the container does not move. Inside, the bottom is lined with mulch film and soil is poured. The slope located at the hole of the barrel is carefully loosened, cleaned of weeds and also sprinkled with flower soil. When the ground settles down, you can plant undersized flowers.

To create the effect of a spreading puddle, it is recommended to plant creeping and ampelous plants with white or blue flowers. For example, if you use an aluminum can and white daisies, it looks like milk is poured out of the dropped can and turns into flowers.

Petunias look beautiful in such a flower garden, as well as multi-colored violets and small carnations. You can use an old unnecessary wheelbarrow: it is installed on one side of the hill, tilted slightly so that the lower edge rests on the top, and reinforced with improvised means. Then they fill the wheelbarrow with earth, and at the same time prepare the soil on the mound. Plants are planted over the entire surface of the elevation and in the wheelbarrow itself; it is better to use flowers bright and colorful.

Video - DIY flower beds in the country

Foreword

Landowners, trying to rationally use the entire area of their territory and decorate it, most often equip flower beds in front of the house. If they are properly broken down and decorated, they will delight the eyes of the owners of the garden and delight neighbors and guests throughout the warm season, and will also serve as an additional decoration for the building, emphasizing its style.

What to consider when arranging a flower bed near a house?

At first glance, it may seem that making a flower bed on your site with your own hands is a simple and easy task. You just need to reproduce your favorite creation of someone's hands, seen at some dacha or in a photograph. Alas, this is not the case. Before you arrange a flower garden, especially in front of the house, you need to take into account many factors and nuances. And while doing work with your own hands, some knowledge and skills may be required.

Any unaccounted for trifle or mistake will lead to very nondescript and self-damaging results. The most important thing is to choose the right place for the flower garden. Of course, there may not be many options near the house to sort through them. Somewhere there are already paths, a platform for a car, outbuildings or other plantings. Still, we must try to find the most suitable place.

It is advisable to break a flower bed in front of the southern wall of the house. This will protect the flower garden plants from the north wind.

At the same time, it must be borne in mind that most plants for a flower bed are completely unsuitable for places under the sun's scorching rays all day and in a draft. And in the soil where it is supposed to make a flower bed with your own hands, moisture should not stagnate. This also applies to melt water and rainwater. Putrefactive processes are likely to begin in tubers, rhizomes or perennial bulbs. In addition, with an excess of moisture, root respiration of any plants is blocked or impeded.

Then, at the chosen place near the house, you need to decide on the type of available natural light. This will help in the future to choose the right plants correctly. The following types are conventionally distinguished:

  • bright light - during the day the plants will be in direct sunlight for at least 7 hours;
  • diffused light - direct rays will illuminate the flowerbed in front of the house in the morning or in the evening for 2-3 hours, or there is a slight shade from branches growing near trees or shrubs;
  • partial shade - the lighting is bright, but without direct rays of the sun;
  • shadow.

Then you should determine at the selected place near the house and its acidity. If the characteristics of the soil turn out to be unsuitable, they can be corrected or changed, and if necessary, it will be necessary to make a complete replacement of the top layer of the earth. Again, what kind of soil will eventually be in the place of the future flower bed ("native" or modified composition) will affect the choice of plants. But any type of soil or substrate should be additionally enriched with organic (bird droppings, manure, compost) and mineral (complex) fertilizers.

Planning - the basics of decorating a flower bed at home

After determining the main characteristics of the chosen place, you should proceed to planning the future flower garden in front of the house. It is necessary to decide what size and shape it will have. It should be borne in mind that large flower beds look better than several small ones. And in general, if space permits, it is advisable to make 1 large flower garden, as in the photo, occupying all the free space in front of the house.

If there is little experience in gardening, then for a start it is better to make a simple-shaped flower bed with a not very complex design with your own hands. The main thing is that it blends harmoniously with the landscape and is designed taking into account the architectural style of the house. By and large, there is no need to “reinvent the wheel” - there are already ready-made solutions, everyone is known.

In any case, and when using ready-made solutions, and relying on your own taste and imagination, we recommend following one important rule: the more saturated the architecture of the house is with various decorative details and delights, the more modest in terms of color and variety of plant species the flowerbed should be (as in Photo). And vice versa, when the structure is laconic enough, then a bright (even if in a regular style), and even better, a variegated (rich in different colors) flower garden will be very appropriate.

Then it is recommended to draw up a plan for the placement of plants in the flower bed, the correct choice of which will be discussed below. To do this, we mark on paper where and what plants will be planted. They must be grouped according to seasonality, height, variety, color. At the same time, you need to try to imagine as clearly as possible how a flower bed, decorated with your own hands according to a plan, will look like. It should be a solid composition, as in the photographs, despite its variegated composition. Thoughtlessly and haphazardly planted flowers, without creating harmony with the surrounding exterior, will not decorate either the house or the plot.

When planning a flower bed, you need to decide in advance how to decorate its edges with your own hands, and if you wish, how to additionally decorate the flower garden with decorative elements. Any materials at hand may be suitable for this. There are also many ready-made solutions for this, accompanied by photographs. Using them and your own imagination, you can make a very original flower garden.

The main criteria for the selection of plants

When selecting plants, first of all, one should take into account how suitable the conditions are for them in the selected place (discussed above), whether there is or is not watering. Another important criterion is mutual color tolerance. Some cannot "get along" with each other.

You should not choose the most beautiful plants, which are usually the most difficult to care for. It is unlikely that there will be an opportunity and the ability to give them the proper look with their own hands will be enough. The more unpretentious the selected plants are, the better results can be expected.

The selection of plants should also be based on the following aspects:

  • flowering period - if you plant varieties with different flowering periods, then the flower bed will delight the eye from spring until the end of the heat in late autumn;
  • perennials do not have to be planted every year;
  • color scheme - cold tones (blue, blue, purple and green) are ideal for the background of the flower bed, hot shades (red, yellow, orange) are ideal for accent details of the composition, white flowers are needed to smooth out contrasts and as a neutral element, and black flowers are used for underlining the picture;
  • the highest - for the center of the flower garden, and in the direction towards its borders, more and more undersized are planted, as shown in the photo.

How to break a flower bed with your own hands?

First, if necessary, we clear the area allocated for the flower garden. Then we mark the borders of the flower bed. If the soil is fertile, then at the site of the future flower garden, it is enough just to remove all the weeds, and then dig up and loosen the soil. But this must be done very carefully.

If the soil in front of the house is unimportant, then inside the area marked out for the flower bed, the top layer of soil should be removed to a depth of 15–20 cm. After that, we dig in or install decorative elements of the flower garden and its borders (sides). When the soil is fertile, we do this part of the work after loosening the soil. Then we level and tamp the surface of the open pit, and then, if necessary, lay the drainage on its bottom. For these purposes, expanded clay, crushed stone and even broken brick are suitable.

Then we fall asleep in the "pit", and add fertile soil to the weeded loosened place under the flower bed, which must be prepared in advance by adding organic fertilizers to it. You can also use black soil and sand to improve the quality of the soil. We fill the soil slightly above the required level, and then level it, if necessary, forming a hill in the center of the flower garden and a slope towards its edges. Then we take a break from work for 10-15 days in order to let the earth settle in the future flowerbed before planting the plants.

On the eve of the day of planting, it is advisable to moisten the soil abundantly. The planting and / or seeding density of the selected plants should be selected based on their characteristics. Particular attention should be paid to this when planting flowers in groups. It is necessary to leave such a distance between the plants so that later you do not have to plant them, saving them from overgrown "neighbors".

The decorated flower bed must be constantly monitored. In order for it to bloom longer, it is necessary to regularly cut off the already faded flowers. This will provoke the repeated flowering of some of them, primarily perennial ones, such as, for example, bells, carnations, delphiniums, lupines. And, of course, the flower bed must be watered, fertilized in a timely manner and not allowed to overgrow with weeds.

The concept of "landscape design" can be interpreted in different ways. For many, this is an individual fairy-tale world in a personal or summer cottage. At first glance, it may seem that creating it is not so easy.

General information

Naturally, the breakdown of the site, self-planting and design of a flower garden in the country is not such a difficult task. However, if there is a need to make changes to the landscape, then it becomes much more complicated. For example, it may be necessary to arrange a decorative reservoir or lay out a cascading lawn in the place where unnecessary and old trees are now growing.

Features of the arrangement

In order to change the landscape at the summer cottage, you can turn to specialists for help. Thus, you will need to pay for the services of a designer. He, in turn, implements the relevant work, among which the following can be distinguished:

It is advisable to use this approach in a new building. Thus, recreation and living areas can be planned in advance. If the dacha already exists, then its alteration does not make sense. It is recommended to redevelop the landscape in stages and make rational use of the available area. It is worth noting that the relief at a specific site has already been outlined by time. At the same time, the issue with reservoirs is also considered resolved. It remains to work with ornamental plants of seasonal or continuous flowering. The ideal option will be considered elements that do not require significant capital investment. It is best to organize flower gardens and flower beds in the country, which will please the owner of the site in accordance with the style and shape of the plants.

Self-arrangement

Beautiful flower beds in the country are considered powerful elements for decorating the site. Thanks to them, the overall composition of the entire territory can be smoothed out. Before making a flower garden in the country, you should get acquainted with the main materials used. Among them are the following:

Any other materials can also be used for these purposes. From this list, you need to select certain compositional elements. They create unique flower beds in the country with their own hands. It is quite possible to independently organize a variety of fantastic compositions. For the layout of styles and forms, various flower garden schemes in the country are used. Thus, the fantasies of the owners of the site can be embodied in reality.

How to arrange a flower garden in the country?

The original composition can be composed of just three types of plants. The flowerbeds are placed in accordance with the wishes of the owners of the site and the landscape. They differ in type:

  1. Islets.
  2. Lawns.
  3. Curb.
  4. Vertical.
  5. Raised.

The flower garden can be of any size.

The following types can be distinguished:

  1. Monoclumba.
  2. Carpet.
  3. Vertical.
  4. Annular.
  5. Raised.
  6. Irregular.
  7. Chameleon.
  8. Regular.
  9. Traditional.

It is not necessary to list the characteristic features of each species. In this case, their names are very eloquent.

Fundamental rules

When creating flower beds in the country with your own hands, you need to choose the right places for them. Shady and lighted areas must be marked on the plan. This point is very important. Thanks to him, the plants will be selected correctly, as well as optimal conditions for their flowering and development will be created. It is recommended that you adhere to this rule in any case. This is especially true when it comes to creating a continuously blooming composition. She will look beautiful all year round. This composition is also called "flower garden of four seasons".

Features of the selection of plants

To correctly create flower beds in the country with your own hands, you need to know some of the nuances. Composing is the most difficult part of this whole business. The aroma, variety of colors, duration and area of flowering depend on it. In order to independently and without difficulties choose the composition of the flower bed, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of the plants and their type. First of all, this applies to the following factors:

Flower bed plants

They are represented by the following types:

  1. Biennials.
  2. Annuals.
  3. Perennials.

Among the latter, exotic, cold-resistant and heat-loving plants can be distinguished. The biological characteristics of each flower must also be considered. It is about the compatibility of plants and their need for dry or moist soil, an abundance of light and warmth or moist shade.

In this case, there are no hard and fast rules. However, many will want to independently create unique flower beds in the country with their own hands. To do this, you will need to adhere to certain recommendations. Elements are combined according to some attribute and perform a specific task. These features can be very different. For example, plants are arranged according to the contrast of shapes, colors or flowering time (sequential or parallel). It also depends on the task that the composition should perform. Flower gardens in the country are often set up to decorate an unsuccessful construction or an unattractive place, as well as emphasize the merits of the landscape.

Varieties of compositions

In the process of collecting a flower bed, the type of flower bed must be taken into account. For example, the composition of the vertical type is most often composed of creeping (bindweed, ivy grapes and other liana-like) and climbing plants. In a similar design, they can be arranged in tiers or planted along the outer diameter. For example, in a "candle" there is a transverse band of colors. Such compositions look very original. Illumination can be provided inside the frame. Thus, the plants will look unusual and very beautiful at night.

Components of the composition "candle"

Bindweed

It is an unpretentious perennial plant. It blooms in spring. Planting in a flower bed is carried out by seedlings. It is not recommended to use more than four colors in a composition.

Nasturtium

This flower is an annual. It belongs to climbing plants.

Maiden grapes

It belongs to perennial climbing plants. It has small clusters of blue-black berries. It is considered a medicinal plant. Reproduction takes place using cuttings or shoots. The crimson leaves of this plant look very beautiful.

Common compositions

Those ensembles that are built on the play of colors, sizes and shapes look most advantageous.

Crown

Outwardly, it resembles a royal attribute. Looks impressive due to the variety of shapes.

Pyramid

This form can be presented in 3-5 steps. The latter are smoothed, the upper tier is sharp.

Cascade

This form can also be presented in 3-5 steps. It is characterized by a flat top tier, which looks like a wedding cake.

In the above compositions, the following types of plants can be planted:

Decorative bow

It is a perennial unpretentious plant. Disembarkation is carried out in groups. It is characterized by a variety of forms.

Geranium

It boasts a variety of species and colors: white, gray, burgundy, purple and lilac.

the Rose

It is characterized by abundant flowering. It is great for the lower tier.

Knifonia

It is also a perennial plant. It has arrow-shaped inflorescences. This plant requires abundant watering. Shelter with sawdust is necessary in winter.

Lupine

This plant is quite moody. However, its bloom is incredibly beautiful. Reproduction takes place through cuttings, bushes and seeds.

Zinnia terry

This plant is annual. It should be sown in warm soil. Flowering occurs in autumn and is very abundant.

The flower garden pattern will be distorted during the growth of annual plants. Thus, the contours and boundaries of the flower bed are violated. To keep the lines clean, the border is delimited with plastic tape. Its width should not exceed 20 cm. In this case, the lower edge of the soil deepens to 13 cm. The free upper part creates a side. It will restrain the growth of the annual. Framing is not required for carpet plant species. They need a kind of haircut, with the help of which impeccable shapes will be maintained throughout the season.
