What cockatoo eat. Cockatoo parrots: reviews, photos

Floriculture

The cockatoo parrot belongs to the order of parrots, which, by the way, is one of the most popular among bird lovers. As for the habitat, this is primarily Indonesia, Australia, New Guinea, as well as many different islands. Parrots of this species are especially loved for their unusually bright appearance, as well as for their acting skills.

Cockatoo parrots are of medium size. The length of the calf can reach 70 cm, such a bird weighs about a kilogram. These parrots have one distinctive feature - the crest, which clearly stands out against the background of the general plumage. Their tail is the most ordinary, it is straight and has a somewhat rounded shape. The beak is quite powerful and large, the parrot is able to bite on various hard objects, such as, for example, wire or walnut shells. Hence the very name of the bird, which in translation means "nippers".

Many bird lovers ask themselves: how long does a cockatoo parrot live? The fact is that the lifespan of these birds is really impressive, in some cases it reaches 80 years. At the moment, it is known about the existence of 21 species of these beautiful birds, but only a few of them are popular.

Moluccan cockatoo

The parrot of this species differs from its relatives in the pale pink color of the feathers, the undertail has an orange tint. Its crest is small, about 20 cm long, its outer feathers are usually white, and the inner ones are orange. The coloration of males and females of Moluccan specimens does not differ, but the color of the eye shell is different for them, for males it is black, for females it is brown.

Scientists dealing with parrots claim that one of the most talented is the Moluccan cockatoo (parrot). Owner reviews confirm this opinion, note the extraordinary talent of these birds. Such a bird is able to memorize and pronounce about 15 different words, and also has the unique ability to imitate the voices of all kinds of animals. Moluccan parrots live for about 55-60 years.

Yellow-crested cockatoo

Already from the very name of the species, it becomes clear that a distinctive feature of the bird is a bright yellow crest. The body of the parrot has white plumage, the inner side of the flight feather, as well as the rudder, has a slight yellowish tint. The iris of the yellow-crested cockatoo is standard: black in males and brownish in females. A distinctive feature of this species of parrots is their ability to imitate human speech. They are often used in circus performances, because parrots, in particular yellow-crested ones, are very obedient birds. Their average life expectancy is 50-70 years.

Pink cockatoo

This type of bird is also called gala in another way. They are very peaceful creatures that easily adapt to living together with humans, to home conditions. Gala is not the most talking cockatoo parrot, its possibilities regarding the reproduction of human speech are very limited. Such a bird has lived for more than 50 years, it is calm, very friendly and obedient, equally strongly attached to each of the family members. Pink galas have a beautiful color, their cheeks and abdomen are bright red, and their feathers are gray, smoky. At the base, the tuft is pink, and the tip is white. The iris in males is brown, and females of this species have a light orange tint to their eyes.

White-crested cockatoo

Birds of this species are distinguished by their showiness, the reason for this is their impressive crest, which is often compared to a crown. The parrot has white plumage and a tuft of the same color. Males and females visually differ from each other only in the color of the iris, in males it has a rich dark brown color, and in females of the same species it is red-brown. Among the white-crested, talking parrots with extraordinary artistic abilities are often found. This is a truly amazing cockatoo parrot. You can see his photo below.

Inca cockatoo

It is also called Major Mitchell's cockatoo. It is these birds that are recognized as one of the most beautiful and even graceful creatures. Their plumage can be either light pink or bright, rich crimson hue. These parrots have a long crest, male and female have the same color. It is difficult to find such a bird at home today, because catching and selling them is strictly prohibited. Even in the homeland of these parrots, in Australia, only a person with special permission from the authorities can keep the Inca cockatoo. The life span of a bird varies from 50 to 80 years.

White cockatoo

It is the white cockatoo that is very popular in our country. The parrot has excellent abilities, it is easy to train, some individuals even know how to dance and perform various acrobatic tricks. The bird is also able to reproduce the speech of a person, as well as imitate other sounds, moreover, the white cockatoo can be taught to whistle a popular melody.

If you are eager to purchase one of these creatures as a pet, remember that optimal conditions must be created for the bird to function normally. First of all, keep in mind that cockatoo parrots are large birds, so they will be cramped in a small cage. In such conditions, the parrot can damage its wings, become withdrawn and begin to show aggression. For a comfortable stay, he will need a spacious, large cage. In no case should we forget about some kind of entertainment for the bird. The cage should be equipped with a sufficient number of all kinds of perches and toys. It is best if all the accessories are made of wood or made of durable plastic, since it will be convenient for the cadu to sharpen his claws.

Specialists in the care of these birds advise to constantly monitor their behavior, because they, like people, show their dissatisfaction with any environmental conditions. If a parrot begins to pluck feathers, something is clearly disturbing him. This should be dealt with with the help of a special rim, which is worn around the cockatoo's neck. In this case, feathers must be sprayed with a specialized spray. If the bird makes noise and makes loud sounds, this is also a sign of his anxiety and irritation. Keeping track of how the bird behaves is very important. Constant observation will help you learn more about the character of the pet, about its habits and preferences, will contribute to your closeness and building relationships.

Feeding

As for the feeding rules, the main thing here is not to overdo it. Once in captivity, the parrot begins to absorb literally everything that it sees, but this does not mean at all that it is really hungry. Be competent in the nutrition of the bird, because overeating often leads to the development of all sorts of diseases and even to the death of a parrot. Cockatoos love a variety of fresh vegetables. Wildlife cockatoo parrots pose a real problem for farmers because of the birds' special predilection for corn: they can ruin an entire crop. Birds love carrots, eggplants, cucumbers and celery. Dandelion roots, beans, pea pods, and red beets can also be used as feed. Fruits are an important element of the poultry diet, because they contain a huge amount of essential vitamins and useful microelements. Cockatoo parrots especially like to eat pomegranate, pear, and they also like all kinds of berries, such as raspberries, strawberries or rose hips.

It is unlikely that a bird will taste food the first time; it must be gradually taught to the correct diet. Some of the foods, on the other hand, are completely contraindicated for cockatoos. In no case should the bird be fed with avocados, chocolates or coffee beans. Cabbage and parsley are also harmful to parrots, as well as dairy products. Cockatoo should not eat anything fried, salt and sugar are harmful for them.

Conclusion

In general, caring for a cockatoo at home is not too difficult. It is necessary to pay special attention to their feeding, to comply with all the rules and norms of maintenance. A parrot can become a great friend, because these birds are very friendly creatures that easily find a common language with humans. Almost all types of cockatoos have talents, most of them are capable of imitating human speech, of course, if the owner pays a lot of attention to training activities. One of the most striking bird species is the cockatoo parrot. The photographs in the article clearly illustrate the whole variety of colors.

The cockatoo parrot is one of the most beautiful, loyal and interesting pets. He will be able to become a faithful companion for life, because such birds are long-livers. However, this requires proper maintenance and feeding of the parrot. How long do cockatoos live at home? How to care for a cockatoo? How to feed the cockatoo? To answer these questions, it is necessary to deal with each of them in detail separately.

For a parrot to be cheerful, healthy, lead a full and active life, it should be kept in certain conditions. Cockatoo is an exotic bird, it needs to create an appropriate climatic background. So, the optimal temperature for a parrot is considered to be a standard room temperature, that is, within + 20 ° C, and the air humidity is 70-75%.

In addition, these pets need a lot of sunlight. However, it is impossible to leave them for a long time under the influence of direct rays of the sun - the parrot may overheat. To prevent this, one corner of the cage is covered with a cotton cloth. In addition, the room where the parrot cage is located should be regularly ventilated. He needs fresh air. You should not place the bird in the kitchen, where alluring smells are constantly present.

The cockatoo cage should be cleaned daily of excrement and food debris. It is also necessary to wash the bird's feeder and drinker as often as possible. It is recommended to wipe them thoroughly with a dry cloth to prevent the formation of mucus and suppuration on the dishes.

How to choose a home?

The cockatoo is a fairly large bird. An adult reaches 75 cm, weight can vary within 1 kg. Accordingly, such a pet needs a lot of space so that it can move freely, jump and spread its wings. Only in the right conditions, the bird will always be in a good mood.

The cockatoo cage should be all-metal, and the size and shape depend directly on the particular parrot and their number. So, for small breeds, the size of the dwelling should be within 70 * 50 * 50 cm, and for large birds - 170 * 100 * 100 cm. Moreover, if several birds are planned to be placed in the cage, it is better to choose the dome-shaped or tetrahedral shape of the house.

Arrangement of a parrot's home

The cockatoo cage must be equipped in a certain way for the bird to feel comfortable. For this, a pair of crossbars, a feeder and a drinker, and various toys are installed in it. In this case, the poles must be necessarily wooden, best of all from oak, maple or beech. Their diameter depends on the size of the bird - the larger it is, the thicker the perch.

A footrest is also required. It has a conical shape, and its size is selected taking into account the dimensions of a particular bird.

Information! The footrest should be of such parameters that the fingers do not touch each other when the bird is sitting on it.

The stand must be placed in such a way that the bird's head and tail do not come into contact with the rods of the cage. Also, it should be well fixed, given that cockatoos weigh a lot and are very mobile. In addition, a special bar with calcium is hung in the parrot's cage, on which he will sharpen his beak. A special lock should be installed on the door of the house, otherwise the bird may fly out. Toys are selected individually for the character and characteristics of the bird.

How to feed properly?

In order for the parrot to always be vigorous and healthy, it is recommended to provide it with what the cockatoo eats in the wild, namely, balanced food. The daily diet of a bird is directly dependent on the season. So, with the appearance of cold weather in autumn days and until mid-spring, the pet's menu should consist of 50% of the grain mixture. The rest of the time, the diet of the bird is more varied. During this period, fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs make up 75% of the total menu.

The parrot mix, which is offered in specialty stores, consists of several types of crops:

  • corn;
  • oats;
  • sunflower seeds;
  • buckwheat and others.

Such a mixture will provide the bird's body with the necessary microelements, vitamins and essential oils.

Vegetables and greens

Despite the fact that the mixture of grains is enriched with substances useful for the feathered, it should not be fed monotonously. It is recommended to supplement the main food with fresh root vegetables and herbs, which can be found even near the house. They contain those trace elements and vitamins that are not enough in the grain.

The main available root crops containing many substances important for birds are:

  • carrot;
  • celery;
  • turnip;
  • tomato;
  • beet;
  • cabbage.

Before feeding the cockatoo, the vegetables must be boiled for half an hour. It is undesirable to salt them during heat treatment.

Information! As the owners of the birds note, cockatoos are happy to eat vegetables, which do not have to be cooked - these are fresh beans and young corn, cucumbers, zucchini, bell peppers. Such products can be given either individually or as an assortment.

It would be useful to add medicinal herbs that often grow in the nearest park to the feathered menu - young nettle, dandelion, plantain and others. They contain a lot of useful substances, such as vitamins B, K, PP, A and others. In addition, these greens are rich in vegetable protein. Before offering the grass to a feathered pet, it should be thoroughly washed, chopped and mixed into the main feed.

Fruits and berries

Cockatoos, like all exotic birds, prefer fruits as delicacies, especially kiwi, pineapple, citrus fruits, and bananas. Parrots also like more affordable fruits - apples and pears. Regardless of the type of fruit, it should be pre-washed and cut into pieces so that they can fit in the pet's paw.

Of the berries, the parrot can be offered mountain ash, raspberries, grapes. The bird will not refuse from plums, cherries and strawberries. Before giving the bird large fruits, it is recommended to remove the seeds from them.

Complementary feeding of animal origin

A full-fledged feeding of a parrot is impossible without proteins and proteins, which contain large quantities of animal products. Therefore, birds include boiled chicken meat in their diet, as well as low-fat dairy products, but in limited portions. Parrots will never refuse to eat yogurt, cheese or cottage cheese, but they should be offered such dishes only with a reduced lactose content.

Cockatoos are also added to the menu with boiled eggs - both chicken and quail. However, it is recommended to offer them to your pet only 1-2 times a week, not more often.

Attention! It is possible to compensate for the deficiency of minerals in the poultry body with the help of specialized supplements. They are sold in the form of granules, powder or compressed bars.

How to raise and train a cockatoo?

Before you start raising a bird, it should be borne in mind that cockatoos at home behave exactly the same as in their natural environment. That is why it will not work to achieve absolute obedience from parrots. If you try to do this, the pet may stop perceiving others, become depressed and withdrawn.

To raise a cockatoo, you need to learn how to correctly express your emotions when the bird does something. In case of correct actions, it is necessary to praise the pet verbally or to encourage various delicacies. For example, all cockatoos love nuts. If the bird misbehaves, you can teach it to the word "no"; a demonstrative turn with its back to the pet will also help in this situation.

The training of the cockatoo, like any parrot, should take place in a playful way. For this, special educational toys are purchased. It should be noted that such birds like to untie various knots, toss balls, collect rings.

To teach cockatoos to make special sounds, you should start with small bells or rattles. After the pet has begun to correctly perform any actions with toys, it is sure to be encouraged with a tasty morsel.

Life span of parrots

Cockatoo, with proper maintenance, can live long enough. Depending on the species and conditions, a parrot can live from 40 to 90 years. Breeding such birds at home is also possible, but this process is quite complicated.

The difficulty lies in the fact that during the mating period, the parrots become quite aggressive and do not respond to the comments of the owners. In addition, cockatoos do not tend to breed while in cages. To do this, it is necessary to prepare in advance a spacious aviary with optimal and comfortable conditions.

From the first minutes of the appearance of a funny parrot in the house, the new owners ask themselves the question: "What can you feed the cockatoo?" After all, you really want to constantly see him active and vigorous, so that he fully develops, you could always play. This is possible if one of the conditions is met - feeding a healthy balanced diet.

Vegetables and greens in a parrot's diet

The daily menu is not only varied, but also seasonal. So with the onset of cold autumn days and until the beginning of spring, the diet consists of half a grain mixture. The remaining half is divided equally between fresh vegetables with fruits and grains, which are previously germinated. In the summer, the amount of grain is reduced by 15 percent, while the content of germinated feed is increased by 15 percent.

The grain mixture is able to provide the body with all the necessary components, primarily protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, and vegetable esters. Basically, such a mixture is represented by oat and corn grains, sunflower seeds, hemp seeds, buckwheat, millet and canary seed. They are also recommended for other large parrots, such as macaws or.

There are many valuable minerals and vitamins in root crops and other succulent parts of plants that grow in almost every vegetable garden or near the house. These, for example, are:

  • celery;
  • lettuce leaves;
  • turnip tops;
  • spinach;
  • tomatoes;
  • carrot;
  • boiled potato tubers;
  • beetroot;
  • Chinese cabbage.

It is better to feed a parrot with tubers that have previously undergone heat treatment, but absolutely unsalted. The optimal cooking time is about half an hour.

It will not be superfluous to add plants that are considered medicinal to the diet: dandelion (including its root), thistle, plantain, young nettle. It is better to crumble greens, i.e. serve as a kind of salad.

The vegetable set, which cockatoo will enjoy with pleasure, is diverse:

  • cucumbers;
  • zucchini;
  • young corn (milk ripeness);
  • green beans (including peas in pods);
  • Bell pepper.

It is better to give preference to products from your garden. If this is not possible, then it is worth buying fruits and vegetables according to the season.

How to feed fruit properly?

In addition to citrus fruits, pineapple and kiwi, a parrot can be quickly accustomed to fruits that are considered common in the gardens of Russia: pears, apples, peaches. You can be sure that the bird will not refuse such berries as mountain ash, raspberries, strawberries and grapes. Remove the seeds from the cherries.

Branches of some of the above trees and shrubs are considered no less useful than juicy fruits and berries. The fruit is cut into pieces that can easily fit in the cockatoo's foot, so it will be convenient for him to take. You cannot leave in the cage everything that the bird could not eat, because it quickly deteriorates. Some bird products will probably be new. Then, showing diplomatic abilities, you must try to persuade her to try the healthy fruit.

Sprouted food preparation

The beans, before serving them to the parrot as food, are poured with water so that they swell. A mixture is made from peas, soybeans, small beans, lentils and other legumes prepared in this way.

They do the same with cereals, i.e. wheat, oats, buckwheat, etc. Grains left in water and a warm room will sprout white sprouts after about 24 hours. A healthy treat is washed in running water.

When eating sprouted food, the pet is saturated with vitamins of the B and E groups. The body especially needs them during periods when the bird grows or sheds. It is advisable to add about 15 percent peanuts or hazelnuts to the cereal mixture. This will enrich the dish with vegetable fats.

Animal feed, vitamins and minerals

Naturally, in the absence of proteins in the diet, there can be no talk of complete food and, accordingly, dream of the normal development of cockatoos. The source of animal proteins, first of all, can be boiled chicken meat or even small bones with meat on them.

Dairy products are included in limited quantities, and with a very low percentage of milk sugar (lactose) content. A feathered pet is unlikely to give up cheese, yogurt and low-fat cottage cheese.

Once or twice every seven days, young birds are fed a boiled quail or chicken egg. All the necessary complex of vitamins is contained in a multivitamin supplement, which is recommended to be included in the cockatoo diet 2 times a week.

Finally, one cannot but mention the minerals. The parrot's body is in the same need for them, as for all the other components discussed above. Minerals are commercially available in different varieties, namely mineral stones, powder or granules.

A little about drinking cockatoo

It is imperative to change the water in the drinker so that it is clean at all times. Hygiene is an important condition for staying in a comfortable environment for any feathered pet. For instance,

Cockatoo (black, large yellow-crested, Inca, red, etc.) can be confidently called the most intelligent, charismatic and sociable parrots of all species. To find mutual understanding with a bird, you need to stock up on a large baggage of knowledge and make a lot of effort. Prostozoo will help you create conditions for your pet that will maximize its bright personality.

There are 21 species of cockatoo in the world (including cockatiel), but few of them are known

to the general public, even fewer parrots are suitable for keeping at home.

The natural habitat of birds is limited by the borders of Australia, New Guinea and the islands of Indonesia. Many species of cockatoo are not just rare, but are on the verge of extinction and are included in the International Red Book. Australia has a law that prohibits the export of cockatoos outside the country (permission can only be obtained for the export of birds that were bred in captivity).

The cockatoo bird is distinguished by intelligence and ingenuity

In addition to the bright and exotic appearance, cockatoos stand out for a number of features that made them great pets. Birds have intelligence, and therefore are well trained (they can learn several dozen words, phrases and parody sounds). Cockatoo has good artistic data, they are very musical: they like to listen to music, sing along to their favorite performers and dance. And most importantly, they are affectionate, and willingly go to interact with a person.

Cockatoo are flocking birds. In nature, they form flocks from a couple to several hundred individuals. In captivity, if the cockatoo does not have a second half, then all its attention "switches" to the person caring for him. If you pay a lot of attention to the bird, it will quickly become tame. The cockatoo is hard to bear separation from his loved ones, he is very bored, there are cases when from melancholy they fell ill and died. If a cockatoo does not have enough attention, he demands it with a shrill and loud cry, because of this I consider the birds to be noisy and restless. But if your cockatoo has enough communication, then he will behave modestly and quietly.

Cockatoo are very curious and contact birds, they need communication and, if for some reason you do not have the opportunity to pay enough attention to the parrot, then so that the bird does not become a victim of loneliness syndrome, it just needs to get a pair.

It is better to think about creating a pair in advance: to simultaneously have two young opposite-sex birds and keep them together. In this case, the cockatoo will be able to create a strong pair. For a parrot who has lost his soul mate, it is difficult to find a partner.

Better to get a "fosterling", a young cockatoo. You can also make friends with an adult bird that has changed not a single owner and home, with due care and attention, it can become a full-fledged member of the family, however, this will take more time than in the case of a young parrot. Cockatoos are capable of building relationships at different levels. Therefore, they will perfectly be able to interact with all members of your family.

Big Bird - Big Responsibility

The ability of cockatoos to communicate and interact is due to their intelligence, which was formed over millions of years (not so long ago, fossilized remains of a cockatoo were found in Australia, which date back to the early Miocene, and this is 24-16 million years ago) and ensured the survival of the species. Cockatoo are capable of experiencing deep emotions: fear, compassion and affection.

The cockatoo parrot is a very beautiful and charming representative of its kind. Funny behavior, interesting character and remarkable intelligence make many people want to make him their pet. At the same time, not everyone is familiar with the peculiarities of caring for such a parrot, therefore, often after some attempts to overcome difficulties, there is a desire to give it back. To prevent this from happening to you, we suggest learning more about home-keeping cockatoos.

Parrot cockatoo - description

There are many types of cockatoos, and depending on this, they can be medium-sized (about 30 cm) or large (up to 70 cm). In any case, their main distinguishing feature is the crest formed by elongated feathers on the forehead and crown of the head. The color of the tuft, as a rule, states with the main color of the feathers. The color itself can include feathers of a wide variety of shades - red, white, yellow, pink, black.

Another distinctive feature of the parrot is its powerful curved beak, capable of gnawing nuts, turning the wooden elements of the cage, furniture and everything that gets in its way into chips. A talking cockatoo parrot is able to learn several phrases and a dozen words, imitate different sounds and even perform some circus tricks - bows, somersaults, coups.

Where does the cockatoo parrot live?

In the wild, the cockatoo parrot is found in the Philippines, Australia, New Guinea and the islands of Indonesia. In different habitats, these birds easily adapt to certain conditions. So, Australian cockatoos settle in large flocks in open areas, using trees only as a place to spend the night. Indonesian cockatoos prefer tropical and subtropical forests and wetlands.

Even the largest cockatoo parrot will never choose solitude. It is common for these birds to concentrate in large groups to ensure the safety of the flock and adequate nutrition. In addition to the instinct of self-preservation, they are pushed to cohesion by the love of communication - in the flock they maintain very close contact with relatives, and they choose a life partner and partner once and for all.

What is useful and interesting for a cockatoo parrot?

Cockatoo breeders are aware of their fun and outgoing nature. The bird is very attached to the person who cares for it - the parrot can "follow on the heels", trying to get into the center of attention of its owner. He needs to pay a lot of attention, educate and play. If you decide to go on vacation, out of longing for you, the bird may begin to pull out feathers and bring itself to death. It is also interesting to know what a cockatoo parrot is useful for: for residents of the countryside, a bird can play the role of a garden pest exterminator, since its food includes insects and larvae.

Parrot cockatoo - keeping at home

Preparing for the fact that soon a cockatoo parrot will settle with you, you need to purchase a spacious or domed aviary for it. The rods must be metal and strong so that the parrot cannot break them with its beak. The bottom of the cage should be retractable for easy cleaning.

The cockatoo parrot requires care and maintenance with frequent bathing. When the room is warm, you can water the parrot from a spray bottle every day - this will replace bath procedures, since in nature they are very fond of bathing in the rain. In general, it is extremely important to maintain cleanliness and hygiene not only of the bird itself, but also of its home, so regular cleaning of the cage should become your hobby.

How to feed a cockatoo parrot?

The captive should be varied and balanced. Small and large cockatoo parrots are unpretentious in food, they eat any grain mixtures, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, weeds. They also love fruits - apples, cherries, oranges, grapes, etc. Depending on the season, you can diversify their menu with fresh grass and shoots in the spring, or sunflowers and safflower in the winter. The number of daily feedings depends on the age of the cockatoo. So, young individuals eat 3-4 times a day, adults less often - 1-2 times. Fresh water should always be present in the sippy cup.

Types of cockatoo parrots

In total, there are 21 species of cockatoos in nature, which are subdivided into 3 subfamilies. Their differences mainly relate to the length of the tuft and feathers, color and body size. The content of cockatoo parrots largely depends on the species, since they are, to varying degrees, able to become attached and amenable to education. Consider the most common parrots for home keeping.

White parrot cockatoo

White cockatoos live in the Mulokk Islands. The cockatoo parrot of this breed has an impressive size - up to 45 cm, 20 of which are on the tail. Its feathers are completely white, and only around the eyes the skin has a bluish tint. The beak and paws are black and blue. You can distinguish a male from a female only by the color of the iris of the eyes: in females it is red-brown, in males it is black.

This subspecies of cockatoo has a weak ability to imitate human speech. Their cry is very loud, and their temper is very restless. Combined with a powerful beak, this gives a reason to keep birds in an all-metal cage with secure locks. The more spacious the cage (aviary), the more interesting behavior is observed in white parrots. In cramped conditions, the bird will sit motionless most of the time.

Pink parrot cockatoo

The pink cockatoo parrot, also called a clown or a fool, lives in Australia. Its average size is 35 cm. Its plumage is smoky gray, and its neck, cheeks and belly are red. The crest is light above, and reddish-pink below. The iris is light orange in females, dark brown in males. The birds are very fond of swimming, feed on grass seeds, berries, grains, oats, flowers and buds, insects and larvae.

Goffin's cockatoo parrot

They live in Indonesia and the Tanimbar Islands. The snow-white species of cockatoo parrots, to which the goffin belongs, reach a size of 32 cm. Their plumage near the ears is yellowish, the tail and the lower parts of the wings are also pale yellow, the beak is gray-white, the bridle near the beak is pink. Goffins are endangered species due to the destruction of their habitat and the uncontrolled trade in these birds.

The goffin cockatoo parrot is very noisy and active. However, upon falling into captivity, adults become withdrawn, only gradually taming and becoming more and more trusting and tame. The diet of these birds should include sprouted grains of sunflower and wheat, safflower, boiled corn and rice, fruits and vegetables. Breeding in captivity is quite possible. The mating season begins in May.

Yellow-crested cockatoo parrot

The habitat of this species of cockatoo is Australia, New Guinea, Tasmania and the Kangaroo Islands. The talking cockatoo parrot is painted white, the inner sides of the wings and tail are a blurred yellow. Its crest is yellow, narrow, sharp in shape. There are blue-white rings around the eyes, the iris is black in males and reddish-brown in females. The legs are dark gray, the beak is black.

The bird is large - the size of its body reaches 50 cm, the size of the wing is 30-40 cm. Among other species of cockatoo, yellow-crested cockatoos are especially loved by breeders, since they show excellent tricks and repetition of human speech. They are easy to train and educate. It should be remembered that good results can be achieved with regular exercise.

Parrot moluccan cockatoo

These species of cockatoo parrots inhabit the forests and swamps of the Seram and Ambon islands of the Moluccan archipelago in Indonesia. Their body is large - 50-55 cm, weight reaches 900 grams. Basically, the plumage has a pale pink tint, the fenders are orange, under the tail the feathers are orange-yellow. The beautiful and long (18-20 cm) crest of the Moluccan cockatoo is tricolor: white on the outside, bright red and orange on the inside.

Around the eyes there is a white leather ring with a bluish tint. You can distinguish the female from the male by the color of the iris: in the female it is brown, in the male it is black. They also differ in size - the males are larger, with a large head. In the middle of the 20th century, representatives of this species of cockatoo were included in the International Red Book.
