April 22 in world history. Bright Resurrection of Christ

Work in the country, in the garden in spring

It is known that Earth Day is also celebrated in March, but these are 2 completely different holidays. Earth Day, held on April 22, aims to unite humankind in the fight to protect the environment. The date for the holiday was chosen in honor of the fact that the first action dedicated to Earth Day was held in the United States on April 22, 1970. Traditionally, on this day, all people who want to take part in greening and cleaning their cities take part in various environmental activities. Thematic lectures and various competitive programs are also held. Special attention is paid to enlightening the younger generation and the formation of a careful attitude towards the world around them.

This is an old Slavic holiday, which is also known as St. George's Day, and it was associated with the day when cattle are driven out into the field for the first time after winter. Holidays similar to Lelnik exist among different peoples of the world. So, the celebrations on April 22 are held in Italy, but the holiday is known as Primavera - the Day of the First Greenery. Since ancient times, on April 22, Greece has been celebrating the return to earth of the daughter of the goddess of fertility Demeter - the goddess Persephone.

As for Russia, here the holiday is known as Lelnik, and many associate it with the name of Lel, the hero of the work "Snow Maiden", written by A. Ostrovsky. There Lel is a wonderful young man who plays the flute. It is interesting that in folk tales Lel is still a girl named Lelia.

As mentioned above, Lelnik was closely associated with St. George's Day. These days were called "Krasnaya Gorka", as the place for the celebrations was the hills located near the villages. Usually, a sod or wooden bench was installed on the hill, on which the most beautiful girl was seated - she was Leleya. On both sides of the girl, offerings were laid out: a loaf, cheese, milk, butter, sour cream, eggs.

Flower wreaths were also laid around the bench. Other girls began to dance in a circle and sing ritual songs, glorifying the deity. In the course of the action, the girl sitting in the center was supposed to put wreaths on the heads of the singers, laid out around her. Sometimes after this ceremony, a bonfire was also kindled, which was called olelia. Round dances with songs could also be performed around it.

It is noteworthy that in the ritual actions dedicated to Lelnik, the motive of the funeral was clearly traced. And it can also be seen on a number of summer holidays - Ivan Kupala Day, Rusalnaya Week, etc.

In Slavic culture, colored eggs were often used for spring ceremonies. Lelnik is no exception. They were taken on the first plowing, smashed on the head of a horse or ox - it was believed that this would help to organize work in the best way and attract good luck.

The English writer Henry Fielding, known as the classic of Enlightenment literature, was born on April 22, 1707.

On April 22, 1724, Immanuel Kant, a representative of the German classical philosophy of the Age of Enlightenment, was born

On April 22, 1819, the German writer and translator Friedrich Bodenstedt was born, who made a significant contribution to the acquaintance of Germans with Russian literature by translating a large number of Russian works

On April 22, 1870, a revolutionary, leader of the Bolshevik revolution and head of the Soviet government, Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, was born

On April 22, 1904, the American physicist Robert Oppenheimer was born, who led the creation of the American atomic bomb.

International earth day

It's so good that there are so many environmental holidays in the spring! So on April 22, the world celebrates another, perhaps the most important in the field of ecology - International Earth Day, which is recognized to encourage the public to pay due attention to the preservation of the earth's ecosystem. The first major action in this regard was held on April 22, 1970 in several US cities, and, as it turned out later, it was a huge success. The following year, Senator Nelson announced the Earth Day, after which this day became a very popular annual event among Americans. And today, Mother Earth Day has acquired a global scale and is celebrated by almost all continents.

The flag with the image of the "blue" planet became the symbol of the celebration. Yes, not just a drawing, but a real photograph taken from space by the Apollo 17 crew during their journey to the moon. In the Russian Federation, Earth Day is held as part of a large-scale program to protect the planet from global environmental hazards. This holiday, unlike the Earth Hour held in March, obliges humanity to join forces to protect the environment and help restore it.

Traditionally, on April 22, those who wish can take part in the cultivation, gardening and improvement of their cities, streets and areas. Every year on this day, hundreds of scientists from all over the world gather at a round table to discuss important aspects of the common cause. And many states organize a wide variety of actions: conferences and exhibitions, as well as planting trees and cleaning territories with the involvement of young people.

April 22 in the folk calendar

Vadim-Klyuchnik

On April 22, the Orthodox Church commemorates the memory of Saint Vadim, who lived in the fourth century in Persia and was an archimandrite. By order of the governor, he and his disciples were thrown into prison, where the martyrs were tortured for several months. Tradition says that the steadfastness of the saints amazed many pagans to such an extent that, after the death of the innocent, they converted to Christianity.

In Russia, Vadim was nicknamed the Keymaster, because on that day it was customary for the peasants to go to the springs (springs) and clean them, saying at the same time: "Underground water, we are opening the vernal way for you." After the ritual words from the springs, they washed themselves with healing water, and also drank several sips of it to strengthen their health. In addition, one could tell fortunes from the sources. So they looked at the life and death of seriously ill people. Guessing the name of the sick, we observed the behavior of the water: if it remains clean, the person will recover, but if the source is bubbling, the worst should be expected. Spring water was also used to dry cattle and sprinkle land plots.

Historical events on April 22

On the day indicated by us, by order of Charles V (the French king), the first stones were laid in the foundation of the Bastille fortress. The structure was supposed to carry out protective functions and with its walls to deter the attacks of the British on Paris. At first it was so: eight huge towers more than thirty meters high, surrounded by high walls and a wide moat, proudly towered over the city, protecting it. Under Cardinal Richelieu, the Bastille began to be used as a state prison until 1789. A few years later, the Constituent Assembly decided to demolish the fortress. Since then, in France every year on July 14, an official holiday is celebrated - Bastille Day, which is accompanied by large-scale military parades on the Champs Elysees.

April 22, 1864- In the USA, the minting of bronze money in denominations of one and two cents began

The then Treasury Secretary, Salman Portland Chase, ordered the inscription “In God We Trust” on American two-cent coins. Over time, this motto moved to dollar bills, simultaneously with the innovation in the United States, a ban on private minting of money was first established. In 1865, the government passed a law to issue copper-nickel three and five cents coins. Some of them, for example, the bronze one-color five-cent coin, are still in circulation today.

The resolution on Soviet citizenship confirmed that every person who was on the territory of the Soviet Union was recognized as his full citizen, but only if he was not a citizen of another state. Also, the document had an additional clause stating that if a citizen of the Soviet Union was also a citizen of another union republic (where he lived), then the choice of citizenship was determined by the prerogative of each individual separately.

April 22 were born

Vladimir Ulyanov(1870-1924) - the founder of the first socialist state, the leader of the proletariat Ulyanov is better known to us under the pseudonym Lenin. He is one of those politicians who does not have an autobiography. Man of mystery, man of legend! What was he really like? First, an icon was presented to people, and then, many years later, at the end of perestroika, this icon was hewn in the mud. One thing is clear, Lenin was an ambiguous and in a sense tragic figure. Hoping to change the fate of his homeland, he got a very wrong result. Brilliant and extraordinary, he overturned the Soviet regime, millions of people were influenced by his ideas, and many remain to this day. Thus, the opinion of the majority of historians is unambiguous: the role of Lenin in the history of our state is enormous. Due to severe congestion at the beginning of 1924, his condition worsened, and soon Ulyanov died. The official cause of death was advanced vascular atherosclerosis, which explains the presence of such symptoms as paralysis, speech impairment, etc.

Vladimir Nabokov(1899-1977) - a talented writer. The author of such well-known works as "The King, Queen, Jack", "Mashenka", Lolita ", Camera Obscura", "Defense of Luzhin", etc. Nabokov considered himself an American writer of Russian origin, wrote about himself: "My mouth speaks English , heart - in Russian, and ear - in French ... "

Julius Robert Oppenheimer(1904-1967) - an outstanding American physicist, the "parent" of the atomic bomb. Subsequently, he became her opponent, for which in 1954 he was deprived of the right to access secret materials and tests. Later, Robert Oppenheimer announced that he had done the "work of the devil."

Ivan Efremov(1907-1972) - paleontologist, Russian science fiction writer, explorer. At the age of 19 he made his first discovery, and at 30 he already became a doctor of sciences. Efremov approached literature quite unexpectedly, when he was acutely worried about the strong "tilt" of society towards technology and science. He boldly said that science without philosophical support is empty and meaningless. Here are some of his outstanding novels: The Road of the Winds, The Andromeda Nebula, The Heart of the Serpent, Razor Blade, Starships, The Hour of the Bull, and a few others.

Holiday among the Slavs

Lelnik

We have long forgotten what holiday our ancestors celebrated - the Slavs on April 22nd.
Lelnik is an Easter Slavic folk tradition of painting eggs. The holiday "Lelnik" was usually celebrated on the eve of St. George's Day - April 22. These days were also called "Krasnaya Gorka" among the Slavs, because on a hill located not far from the village, they set up a small sod or wooden bench on which the most beautiful girl was seated and she played the role of Leli (Lyali). On the bench where the girl was sitting, offerings were laid to the right and left of her.
Be sure to place a loaf of bread on one side, and put a jug of milk on the other side, put cheese, sour cream, butter and eggs. Wreaths were laid out around the bench and the girls sang ritual songs and danced in a circle.
While dancing and singing, the girl sitting on the bench put wreaths on her friends. After the holiday, sometimes a fire was kindled on the hill itself, and there they danced and sang songs.
Today the name of Lelia for us is associated with the fairy tale "Snow Maiden" by A.N. Ostrovsky, where Lel is a wonderful young man who fabulously played the flute.
And in the Slavic folk songs Lel - this is Lelia - was a female character and only girls were participants in the holiday.
