How to play Raymond together. Rayman Legends is a mindless and merciless platformer

Game modes: On one screen (4)

Released: 2013

Ubisoft, after almost two years, has again declared itself to the gaming world. The company is the largest, and its project is the largest among its kind! Remember, for sure, about the platformer Rayman with the co-op mode, which at one time flirted with for hours? The game was simply fantastically verified, at the same time pleasing with its dynamics and design, giving the company of players great pleasure. Now the project is back, staying as well thought out and stylish in design. This is again the game designer Ansel tried, once again showing the wonders of imagination. The mechanics remained the same, but new interesting locations and additional gameplay elements were added. And again you can sit up for hours playing Reiman!

It's been a full hundred years since the action featured in Rayman Origin. Heroes over the century have managed to sleep well, and now they are ready for new adventures! However, happiness passed while the characters were regularly snoring in their soap bubbles: evil penetrated everywhere into the colorful bright world, and now the kingdom is completely overwhelmed by nightmares and horrors. The creators followed the main traditions of this game genre, and completely atrophied the storyline. The plot practically does not make any sense, but a frantic pace and an insane gaming atmosphere, as always, are present.

The design (going back to the design) is simply stunning. One look of locations and backgrounds makes you forget everything when you launch Rayman Legends. Since around the kingdom of sleep, the environment corresponds: beautiful, just fabulously unreal and insane. Some futuristic landscapes, strange-looking enemies, cool animation of the main characters and stunning content in its madness. This is not a great cartoon, but even more - a cartoon in which you are the main character. Even after a few years, the game graphics have not become outdated in any way - there is nothing in it to become outdated, everything is so attractive and interesting. Although, on closer examination, in the background you can "catch" real 3D - maybe for this project and superfluous, but still normally inscribed in the game world.

Designers have again developed a bunch of locations, continuing to pamper gamers. Typical standards remain, such as Gothic castles or the water world, but there are certain changes in them. Under water, for example, there are some strange structures and structures in the shadow of which heroes can hide from enemies. And the level that looks like Guitar Hero can be safely ranked among the masterpieces: any action of the character, be it a jump, steps or blows, causes an interesting accompaniment melody. And when all four players run and jump in co-op mode at once, catharsis sounds from the speakers. In general, it is better to see each level yourself, otherwise you will not have a complete picture of it.

Further on the gameplay: comrade Michel Ansul did not change the structure, and transferred the abilities of the characters to the new toy practically unchanged, even the animation remained the same. At the same time, at the very beginning, about 30 minutes, the toy will remind you of everything that you have already gone through and understood in previous releases of the game: how to run, how to levitate or change dimensions. And it's interesting to play alone, and even more so with friends in co-op mode.

Let's go back to Comrade Michel's talent: he didn’t just correct the game dynamics, but made it much more interesting and more fun. A simple example: if you need to wade through an abyss in co-op mode, then the necessary platforms can only be used for movement by Murphy, no one else. It's very funny!

And as before, in Rayman Legends there are small "koloboks" intended for collecting. You cannot go to the next level without a sufficient number of them. And you also need to free a whole bunch of obscure creatures, which are either hidden somewhere in the depths of the location, or imprisoned in a puzzle. But the levels have become non-linear, so you can skip some details and return to them later, but for now - open a new level and gain experience.

Rayman Legends has been and remains one of the best platformers for both single player and company. It is more interesting to play it just in a co-op, which gives a lot of pleasant impressions and pleasure. Ubisoft fellows, Thu constantly maintain playability and interest in new, albeit "next in a series" projects. Happy to be cooperative!

In November 2011, the first game about Rayman was released on the seventh generation consoles - Rayman: Origins. Before that, of course, games of the series were released on the Xbox360, but it was rather an endless "milking" than full-fledged games. For example Rayman: Raving Rabbids are constant mini-games and the story is not so much about Rayman as about crazy rabbits with a strange "fixation" on plungers.

So the fans were very enthusiastic about the release of the new game. The series returned to its roots and promised to be not only two-dimensional (like the very first game about Reiman on PS1), but also give the opportunity to play for your favorite heroes - Reiman and Globox.

During the development process, Ubisoft managed to win a grant from the French government to support artists - all within the framework of the "games is art too" approach. The game engine, the UBIart Framework allowed artists not to bother at all about how their drawings are animated and keyframes are created, it was enough just to draw and paint, and the game designers would arrange everything there themselves.

Well, they drew the game - at first as a small, downloadable indie hack for XBLA / PSN for a dozen bucks, but in the process more and more people worked on the game. As a result, it has grown into a full-fledged retail release - Rayman Origins.

Unfortunately, the game had a number of shortcomings that would have prevented it from becoming mainstream entertainment for all ages - firstly, intrusive 2d platforming and its price. In an era when everyone more or less learned how to make three-dimensional games, asking for a 2d game (albeit a very good one), which there are tons of iPads / Androids as much as 60 euros (the approximate cost of a box with a game in Europe) is somehow well very impudent.

The second fact follows from the first - since it is a platformer, all the more cooperative (you can and even need to play together), this is entertainment only for a couple of evenings or for a fun company.

Together (three, four) it is fun and easy to play - you help each other, if someone dies - it does not matter, the "bubble" hanging with you can immediately burst and again run further all together.

But to play this game alone is sheer torment.

Not that it was hellish hardcore, we saw platformers and more complicated ones, just at some point you realize that you spent forty minutes on a level, killed your strength and time, while together you can run it without straining for three minutes.

And of course, the further into the forest, the more terrifying - in the first part I played together with a hardened eight-bit hell (see Battletoads) friend, but we ended up watching the ending on YouTube - such a tough thing in the end, it's hard to cope even together.

I don't know if modern children have played this type of platformer or not (I suspect that if they did, it wouldn’t last long), but, I’m afraid, with its complexity, it only scared them away from games of this genre.

And now, almost two years later, the sequel - Rayman Legends. Has anything changed?

In short, nothing at all. It is still a very beautiful and very well-drawn platformer. One of the few games running on modern consoles in fair Full HD at 60 frames per second. A game that shows with every shot how much souls have been invested in it. A fun, funny game. A game that is fun to play.

And the game, which is difficult to play alone - the multiplayer decides.

As if knowing this, Ubisoft makes up for it with an overall relief in difficulty, as well as a variety of typical Rayman races in level. Lots of different mini-games, side missions and a ton of secrets and hidden missions.

The mechanics of the game have changed a little - in addition to jumping, running and gliding in flight, the need to sometimes control the Murfy fairy frog, which opens doors for you and neutralizes enemies and traps, has been added. This is done with one button, and in the version for Wii U and PS Vita it is also controlled from a touch screen. It doesn't matter what a big change.

The plot is practically completely unrelated to the world - we are again fighting evil and saving the oppressed - now it's just a set of stories, myths (and therefore Legends in the name) about anything different and each level is now complete madness and a hymn to the diversity of the world and the creatures living in it ...

Does it make it better? Yes, everything is much more fun and beautiful than in the first (Origins) part, it is easier and more interesting to play it, but I'm still waiting for a full-fledged three-dimensional Rayman 4 - and unfortunately, it is difficult to make this game play its main target audience - children. Having died twenty times at the level, they quickly get bored of this.

It is checked, but it is much more fun for children (the game is like a full-fledged cartoon!) To watch someone play it than to suffer themselves. So it remains for us - adults, to look for like-minded people and go through it under the supervision of our household members.

Outcome: 8/10, so much "dusha", but I would like more.

PS: Reviewed the PS3 version of the game.

Less than two years later, the largest company for the production and publishing of computer games Ubisoft reminded the world again of her great series of cooperative platformers Rayman. Crazy design, dynamic basis, lots of joy for a friendly company and just simply perfectly calibrated game reappeared on the shelves. The famous game designer Michel Ansel did not reinvent the wheel and once again showed his 100% imagination, providing completely new gameplay elements and beautiful locations for the familiar mechanics, which means that a friendly circle of friends can again start a digital farce in Reiman's world.

After the actions of Rayman Origin, a whole century passed, and our heroes all this time were doing their favorite thing - sleeping sweetly. Only bad luck, while Reiman and the company were snoring sweetly in their soap bubbles (and don't ask "why", it's Jo Reiman) nightmares continued to increase in the kingdom of dreams, capturing the territory of a bright and colorful world. The plot, as always, is almost completely atrophied, naturally for the sake of the traditions of the genre, it literally does not carry any semantic load and simply plunges us into the frenzied and insane atmosphere of the game.

But there is nothing that plunges people into digital oblivion more than the appearance of Rayman Legends, created by brilliant artists who again were able to surpass themselves. The surrounding world of the kingdom of sleep is not just corny beautiful, it is insane in its beauty both in the direct and inverse sense of the word. Futuristic views, strange-looking enemies, funny animations of characters, crazy content - everything that can be seen by the eyes in Rayman Legends completely and completely not only resembles a high-quality cartoon, but rather is it. It is in such games that the edge of time is erased, after many years the graphics will not become outdated a bit, in vain due to the fact that there is nothing to become outdated.

True, compared to Rayman Origin with ikwel, it did somewhat succumb to modern standards and in some backdrops the real 3D is still captured, which, at first glance, is not particularly needed here, but in general it is ideally inscribed in the surrounding world.

Designers also continue to pamper us with a variety of locations. Of course, there were some standards, like the water world or gloomy Gothic castles, but even they try to stand out from the heap of standard solutions. For example, in an underwater location, heroes can hide in the shadows of strange structures. Well, a level made like Guitar Hero needs to be urgently brought to the museum of video game art: every step, jump or blow of the character turns into a nice little melody, but when 4 friends are running wildly, jumping and doing other crazy things, the melody simply turns into musical catharsis. You can remember a lot and the level in the rocks, in which the hand of God helps us, and the location of various confectionery products, where you can hammer your way in any way, but it's better to see it yourself.

Michel Ansul did not change his principles in the gameplay structure either, simply transferring all the abilities of the characters to the new part without changes (even with almost the same animations). In the first half hour, the game helpfully reminds us of everything that Reiman and company learned in previous games: here you have both running, levitating, and resizing. Everything is also pleasantly dynamic and insane in co-op.

The main innovation is the revolutionary gameplay, which was created specifically for the flagship Nintendo Wii U and its strange gamepad-tablet. The fact is that now we have in our custody another character named Murphy, who is quite successfully controlled just with the help of this bizarre device. But in alternative gaming systems, such Nintendo techniques are considered simply bad manners, and after the project successfully emerged from the exclusives of the marioboi platform, and Ubisoft, as usual, released Rayman Legends for other gaming systems, the question arose, how will Murphy be controlled?

And Michel again showed his talent and with an elegant attack solved this simple problem, while also making all the already frantic dynamics more fun. Now the "flying fairy-help" just flies up and performs the simplest action at the first call of one of the characters. And this translates into a very curious cooperative experience - imagine this situation: 4 friends need to get through an abyss with lava, and only Murphy can move the platforms that are needed to move. The first player decided that he was faster and pushed the first platform and immediately the second, the second player decided that it was necessary to substitute the first and therefore quickly moved the second platform, the third simply levitated over the abyss and called platform 4, but the fourth player modestly stood on the edge and waited when he has to save all three. Well, Murphy, like a madman, rushes from side to side. Nobody expected such fun ...

In Rayman Legends, there are still small "koloboks" that need to be collected in order to move to another level, and at the level you need to free small incomprehensible creatures that are hidden or simply enclosed in a complex puzzle or obstacle. There are still difficult moments that can be passed later, because the levels are now non-linear and you can open neighboring ones.
Rayman legends In addition to the main mode, there is another warm-up mode (rather funny), a gallery of heroes and levels. The game will not let you get bored, and Ubisoft has not only reached the level of the previous game, but also surpassed it. One can only say - quickly go to play if you are a lover of cooperative entertainment and just a player of all stripes and ages.

In recent years, we've all somehow got used to the idea that 2D platformers are only for indie developers. The creation costs are much less than those of large projects, and the means of self-expression are even more than in the "full-fledged" gaming industry. If anyone tried to send a beautiful three-dimensional blockbuster to retail shelves about how a little boy is constantly crushed with stones, eaten with teeth, torn to pieces or routinely thorned on thorns - the unfortunate publisher would be dragged around the courts by the whole world. But as a small, seemingly frivolous platformer Limbo feels great. We are already silent about the fruits of not quite, apparently, the ordinary brain of Edmund McMillan (Super Meat Boy, The Binding of Isaac).

It's another matter that sometimes large companies look into this niche, remembering their glorious eight- and sixteen-bit past. SEGA is trying with might and main to return Sonic to its former greatness, Nintendo suddenly remembered that, in addition to Mario and Zelda, she has an excellent Donkey Kong Country series in her bins, and the French from Ubisoft brought their mascot into the light of day - a funny kid Raiman.

Something comes to mind

In the vastness of our homeland Rayman never was popular, unlike the same Sonic and Danki Kong. Many people remember his name in the title of the hooligan mini-game collection Rayman Raving Rabbids but nothing more. Only a few of the most enlightened and educated people know that Raiman was invented by the French game designer Michel Ansel, and the first game with his participation was released on the PlayStation in 1995. There, a teenage-looking boy without a neck, without arms and legs, but with a head, hands and feet independent of the body, wandered through two-dimensional colorful levels and, as usual, saved the world from some dark but cute monsters.

Sometimes it seems that the artists are a little overdone with substances that alter consciousness. However, even if it was so, the game was only good for the game.

Basically, in Rayman origins the sample of 2011 will have to do about the same. The plot will be especially imbued with the inhabitants of glorious Soviet-built panel houses. Raiman and his friends were relaxing in nature, while the whole company snorted such an incendiary beat that it greatly interfered with the inhabitant of the lower floor, the dead pensioner Varvara Nikiforovna. The knock on the “battery” was perceived by Raiman's company as a signal for action and only made the “music” louder. For which she paid: the old woman from hell got mad and began to take revenge on the youth terribly. But instead of calling the police, the cunning granny quickly organized a strike group from the inhabitants of the underworld and imprisoned smiling pink balls of a clearly female sex in cages, which are responsible for harmony throughout the world. You can even look for a deep philosophical implication in all this booth, but we advise you not to get carried away too much, since you, as usual, have to deal with the problem.

16 + 16 + 16 bit

Although the "problem" to call at least something in this game does not dare. She is positive to the last pixel and constantly exudes joy and fun, even when Raiman goes to hell, where devils cook a stew of sinners in huge cauldrons. And unlike many other two-dimensional games, where all the scenery and characters are actually three-dimensional, Rayman Origins really looks like a good old, hand-drawn flat platformer. And this is the lion's share of its charm: the game is insanely beautiful, each of its six worlds is made with the greatest attention to detail and pleases with such magnificent landscapes that sometimes you even stop for a minute to admire the most beautiful rainstorm in the jungle or the breathtaking underwater world. And these are not empty words: the last time we saw such a magnificent work of artists and animators in two-dimensional games ... perhaps never.

Cooperation in action! By the way, pay attention to the landscape of inhuman beauty.

Remaining essentially a classic 2D platformer, Rayman Origins is played in a very modern way. The difficulty builds up gradually: if the first levels are flown with minimal effort, then by the middle of the game you already have to sweat a little to get to the finish line, and towards the end you see Raiman bursting like a soap bubble ten times in a row.

But, most surprisingly, it is not annoying in the least, because the complexity never goes beyond a reasonable limit. In fact, the player himself puts a rake in front of him, trying to collect as many yellow fairies (play the role of bonus coins) and find all the secrets that are hidden in abundance at the levels. At the same time, lives are endless, and checkpoints are placed with royal generosity.

To get bored of the monotony also does not work with all the desire. In each of the worlds, Raiman acquires new abilities, and the levels adapt to them, offering to do something new. First, our hero will learn to painfully punch in the eye, then - to soar above the ground, spinning his hair like a propeller. Then good fairies with curvaceous forms will endow him with the ability to dive, walk on walls and even change his own size. At the end of each world, a large pink mosquito comes to the rescue of Raiman, and the game turns into a natural scrolling shooter for five minutes. And in the secret levels you come across a big-eyed chest, which thinks (however, quite rightly) that Raiman will now put a fingal under his only eye, and begins to run away with terrible force, simultaneously preparing traps for the hero in haste.

Think for two

Since imitate the classics, then imitate to the end. What's a 2D platformer without a multiplayer option? The latest Rayman Origins mod can be played by four at the same time, and not online (there is no network mode at all), but behind one console and without splitting the screen into small rectangles (remember, remember "Sega" and "Dandy"). So the game is very conducive to live communication. The four heroes rush about the level, sometimes helping each other, building living towers in order to reach especially inaccessible bonuses, but more often - getting in the way, fooling around and getting underfoot, getting a sea of positive emotions in the process. In terms of the number of positives, the game can easily compete with Littlebigplanet.

Fearfully? We are also terribly fun.

However, in our opinion, Rayman Origins is best played together. In principle, any person is suitable for the role of a partner - from a younger brother to a beloved soul mate. In this case, you can and show good results, looking for secrets, and at the same time laugh heartily.
